"Shall we do this right now?" Ty asked.
"Oh, yes, please," June replied, then looked at Mark. "If that's alright with you?"
"Certainly," Mark said. "No time like the present." They stood, and filed out of Ty's bedroom, downstairs, and into the laundry room, which, being a small room, was quite cramped with three people in it.
"What do I need to do?" June asked.
"I've already made the changes we discussed, including giving Mark the ability to unmerge you. Why don't you try it out, and we'll test Mark's ability."
"Oh, excellent!" June said. "It's too bad that there aren't any clothes needing to be dried right now, but here are some to be washed," she said, pointing to a basket. "I'm going to transform into the washing machine first, just as the machine. Mark, would you put the clothes into me, and detergent, the press my start button? After I've started filling, I'll transform to human-merged form, and then you can test unmerging me."
"Sure, June," Mark said. "Go ahead." June disappeared.
Ty pointed to the June label and logo (a stylized outline of her body) on the washers control panel, and said, "In case you're ever not sure."
Mark nodded, and opened the door of the machine. He started transferring clothing from the basket into the washer. Into June, he thought with amazement. As a rule, Mark didn't like doing laundry, and their division of household labor didn't normally make him do any. But this, he thought. Loading the laundry into his wife! It was getting him excited. He added detergent, and closed her door.
Ty and Mark heard clicking, and saw that June had made some adjustments to her settings. "She has the capability to adjust her settings, and to start herself," Ty told Mark, "but I think she enjoys it more if someone else presses her 'start' button."
Mark smiled, and pressed June's "start" button. They heard her start filling with water. "What now?" Mark said.
"That's up to June," Ty said, "but she knows that we're waiting, so I think she will transform into merged form soon." In fact, they didn't have long to wait. Suddenly the washing machine disappeared, and June reappeared.
"Oh, thank you, Ty, Mark!" she said, and pressed her body against Mark and kissed him. "You can't imagine how wonderful this feels. And I'm still just in the fill portion of the cycle. It gets even better!"
