Jas burst into tears. He wailed at the top of his lungs. He was too little to do anything else when he was this scared. His emotions surged out of him, uncontrollable.
"Aw, it is okay," said the rebel holding him. The rebel put Jas over his shoulder and gently patted his back. Jas continued to sob. "We are near the nursery, right?"
"Yes," confirmed one of the other rebels.
"Go there. Find a pacifier. Bring it back."
"If he is the tyrant Prince's son-"
"He is but a babe! With a new King, any royal blood he has would be irrelevant. At most, he will be given to a royal family of a different kingdom as a gift."
"A slave?"
"Or a son. Now, go!" Footsteps sounded. The rebel adjusted Jas so the toddler was cradled in his arms. "You scared both of them off with your crying, little one." Jas let out a wail in response. He didn't want to keep crying, but he couldn't get himself under control!
Now was a perfect opportunity to use the amulet and get away. But only if he stopped crying long enough to say the magic words. Jas placed all his focus on stopping his cries, ultimately...
