"Can you show me some magic?" Amy asked. "I heard...well, this kinda sounds weird, but I heard this shop was magical."
The old man smiled. The bald patch on his head twinkled in the lamplight. "Very well," he said. "Yes, this shop is full of enchanted objects. It's one of the most concentrated centers of magical energy that still exists on this plane."
"Plane?" Amy thought to herself. Maybe he was delusional after all. They certainly weren't on an airplane. "Um...that sounds kind of dangerous. All that magic in one place."
"Oh, it's very easy to maintain if you know what you're doing." He opened up his large, dusty book and leafed carefully through the pages. "Ah, here's something I think you'll enjoy." He began to recite something in a language Amy couldn't recognize. It didn't even sound remotely close to anything she'd heard before, and she had taken trips to several countries around the world. She snapped out of her thoughts when a bright glow surrounded the man. As he continued chanting the spell over and over, his body began to rise. At first she thought he was casting a flying spell, but then realized that he was actually getting taller. The next thing she noticed was that his beard seemed to be smaller, and the bright reflection the glow was making on his bald head was dimming. Before her own eyes, the man was getting younger!
Amy stayed rooted to the spot, fascinated by his regression. His white hair turned to a deep brown and filled his entire head. His beard was only a few inches long now, and the wrinkles on his withered face had vanished. He stopped chanting and the glow subsided, leaving the figure of a man no older than thirty. He smiled at her through his trim beard.
"Wow," was all Amy could manage. The man laughed cheerfully. "And that's just the start of it!" he encouraged in a voice much softer than before. "Ah, it's been too long since I was able to astound anyone as much as you. I quite miss it."
