Amy hurried through the large store, searching aisle after aisle for Lina. As time wore on her pace became more frantic, and she continued running while keeping her head pointed down each aisle she passed. She wasn't watching where she was going, and so she missed the yellow sign placed on the floor cautioning her of an approaching hazard.
PLOP! Amy fell onto her hands and knees. There was no floor here. She had fallen into a recess and her arms and legs were partially sunk into a thick cement-like substance. It didn't look like ordinary cement, however. This was brown and had dark veins resembling a wood grain.
She looked around. A large square section of the floor had been removed and this cement stuff laid in its place. She carefully pulled her hands out of the stuff and stood up. She waded her feet through the cement until she reached the edge, then climbed back up onto the hardwood floor. She noticed a sign placed right next to this section:
"CAUTION: Floor under repair using our patented Magical Modeling Mixture. Cement-like substance morphs to blend in with its surroundings. Use it to fill holes, remove dents or any similar type of home or business repair. Available in aisle 9."
So that's why the cement looked like wood...it was in the process of turning into a new section of the floor. Amy looked at her hands. They were covered with it almost up to the elbows, but the cement no longer had the color of wood. It had turned a dark gray. Amy flexed her fingers rapidly, fearing that it was actually becoming hard cement and hoping the flexing would cause it to flake off before it hardened all the way.
To her surprise, however, it wasn't coming off. It wasn't becoming rock hard, either. The more she looked at it, the more it had a texture of flesh. Suddenly it sprouted gray fur. Amy watched, entranced, as the cement disappeared as the fur took over. Her fingers retained a thickness from the added substance, but now the surface had become soft, fleshy and padded. She flexed her fingers again and shouted in surprise as sharp claws burst from their hidden folds. She relaxed her hand, and the claws receded. The cement had adapted to their new surroundings by grafting even more cat-like features to Amy's body!
She looked down at her feet, and sure enough she found the same metamorphosis happening. Her shoes and socks had apparently been dissolved by the cement. In their place were two large, clawed cat paws. Long gray fur had grown all the way up to just above her knees. The gray fur on her legs and forearms was quite thick and long, with a feathery texture. It complemented her shaggy gray-and-black hair and tail.
Amy began walking again, marveling at the feeling of her thicker hand-paws and the feeling of the floor underneath her padded feet. Her tail swished excitedly behind her as she continued her search for Lina.
