The human was walking in Hannah's direction. "You're Hannah, right?" it asked (OK, she, Hannah thought, having figured out the human's gender.)
"Yes, what is this about? I thought the park was anthros--only."
"I'm from management, and I'm only going to be here for a few minutes. We want to make you an offer. You're interested in becoming a professional counselor for transgender anthros?"
"Well, yes."
"We're willing to pay for you to take a course on the outside for professional certification, and then guarantee you a job on park staff assuming satisfactory performance. To be honest, Hannah, this business is going to expand. We have options on land to open several more parks all over the country. Our market research shows that people like having the random option, so we're going to have more 'accidental transgenders' in the future. We need people like you."
"I used to be a programming nerd." Hannah replied. "I know there's a catch."
The human looked away momentarily. "You can't do it as Harry. You have to do it as Hannah the deermorph. This is going to be a first step for us to get morphs accepted in society outside the park. Our focus groups show that the type of morph people are initially going to regard as least threatening are female herbivores. So that's what we're going to start with."
Hannah thought. She realized that life in the park was getting a little monotonous. She actually felt a twinge of excitement at the thought of sitting in front of a computer again. But to function in a world full of humans as Hannah the deermorph freak. . .
"What is this really about?" she asked. "Because it's more than a chain of parks, isn't it?"
"Alright." answered the human. "I'm authorized to tell you. You're right, it's more than a chain of parks. This technology was developed by people who want to live as anthromorphs in society. The parks are the thin end of the wedge. We're going to gradually get people in general to accept us as members of society, not just as a few weirdos walled off in a park."
"You said us." Hannah replied.
"Yeah." the human answered. "I did. Ever since I was a little girl, I knew that what I really wanted was to be a dogmorph. I want to have fur and I want to have puppies. We had a dog, and I used to play house with him, pretend we were getting married and I was his wife. Typical little girl stuff, but somehow I knew not to tell anyone about it. This human body--it never has felt right to me. And I want to be able to live in society as a respected member of it. We're like the first generation of transsexuals, only we want to cross the barrier of species. And you can help open the door for us Hannah--you can be the one. Please Hannah, not all of us have the courage."
"Give me a couple of days to think about it."
"OK, Hannah, take as long as you need. I'm Juanita, by the way. Any time you make up your mind you can contact me through park staff."
