Trying to gather your thoughts, you slump down against a nearby tree. Slowly calming yourself, you try to think about what's happening here. Something wanted you at that mansion, something pulled you to that door, and odds are that the thing behind that door didn't chase you to this spot by accident. Your entire night so far has led to you being at this random spot, in this random forest. The question is, why? What point could be served by anyone or anything that could bring you here? To what end has all of this been orchestrated, forcing you to this very spot?
You look around calmly, trying to discern anything unique about this place. Nothing seems to stand out. The trees look as ordinary as trees come, the ground beneath you is simple, soft dirt, and the canopy above lets a calm drizzle barely pass through. You can hear a light breeze blowing past, feel it on your skin. Everything is just what you'd expect to see in any forest. Yet... something is wrong. You aren't sure what, you just get the sense that something isn't right here. The leaves are too green. The dirt is too soft. The sensations are all amplified. It's almost as though it were all too real.
And that breaks it. Whatever illusion you'd found yourself in, it immediately collapses the moment you notice this, and everything around you seems to simply melt away in an instant. When it's over, you find yourself standing back in front of that open door, hand still on the knob, staring blankly. The horrible blackness that had been here before is absent now, replaced by a simple room that resembles all the other rooms. It seems almost as though you never left this spot... and then, you become aware that you didn't. Something here tried to take not your body, but your mind, and it came dangerously close to achieving its goal. The course of action is now clear: you have to escape from this place.
