The rest of the day passes pleasantly, the monotony of walking is broken up by short rests or stops to drink from streams. Your town is in a pretty rural area, so the streams in the hills are pure spring water. A few places in the woods are pretty dense, making it hard for a human to walk. A minotaur, however, is not so easily stopped. You carry Sam through these thickets on your back. Your mythical form is so strong that you barely strain to support her. Eventually the forest begins to thin out, and the two of you have reached open space by the time dusk begins to fall.
An open field separates the forest from the edge of town. You don't want to risk moving into an exposed region, not while the sun is still up. "You go on ahead", you suggest to Sam, "I'll wait till it's dark to follow. You know where I live so you can rest there." You reach to give her yours keys when she speaks up, "I went this far with you, I'm not going to leave you alone now."
So the two of you wait until the sun sinks below the horizon. Then you wait until the sky darkens enough that you feel comfortable moving in a populated area. Using your heightened senses, you lead Sam across the field and onto the streets. The sound of your hooves on the pavement startles both of you. "You should move on the grass", Sam suggests.
Your house is relatively close by, but moving stealthily makes the trip take a little longer than expected. You move across lawns away from streetlights, going into backyards to avoid the few people still out. At one house, a child looking out the window freaks when he sees you. You duck into the hedges when his mother checks outside for the bogeyman.
It's been a long day, but the two of you finally reach your modest house. You open the front door and...
