I ducked out of the cafeteria, embarrassed at what I had just said. Behind me I could still hear the laughter echoing and following me down the hall.
Not really paying attention, I ducked into a room and opening a stall, took a seat on the toilet, my minding slipping, but I shrugged it off.
Suddenly I heard a door open and three female voices drifted in. As I listened to, "Did you just hear what Marcus asked me?" and "Oh my god! He actually asked you that." "What a total weirdo!" I realized that the room I ducked into so naturally was the girl's bathroom.
My mind slipped again and as I tuned out the voices of the chattering girls, I undid my pants, slipped them down around my ankles and began to pee in the toilet. Not sure why, I thought about what a good girl I was and how proud mommy would be off me.
Shaking my head, disturbed by these thoughts, I noticed that the girls had left. Pulling my pants up, I moved to the door and opening it a crack, I looked into the hallway.
No one was out there that I could see and feeling embarrassed enough, left the girl's bathroom for my next class.
The rest of the day I had to put up with snide comments and jeers about what I had said to Jessica. Even my best friend was avoiding me and when I caught up with him after school and asked what was up, he looked at me and said, "You've been acting really weird lately. Maybe it's best if we take a break from each other."
Feeling the tears welling up in my eyes, I shouted at him, "Yeah? Well who needs you? I have my..."
I stopped myself and shaking my head, realized that I had been about to say 'mommy'. Seeing Thomas shake his head, I heard him say as he walked away, "Come find me when you figure out what's wrong. Maybe see a shrink."
Angry, I decided to walk home from school. At home, I didn't see my sister or my mom. It was when I noticed that I had the house to myself, that my mind took another fantastic leap; one that I found I couldn't shake off. Walking towards my mother's room, I stopped and instead went to my sister's room.
Inside, I pulled off my clothes and going through her closet, found a pink ballerina costume, complete with a tutu. Pulling on a pair of Katherine's Hello Kitty underwear, next I pulled on the the tights and then the body suit. My mind snapped back and I was temporary surprised that it all fit, but then I noticed the dolls and my mind took another turn.
Picking up the doll, sticking my thumb into my mouth, I crawled into my sister's bed and instantly fell asleep, the thoughts, "Mommy has me take a nap around this time," racing through my mind.
I awoke to the sound of a car door slamming. As another slammed, I then remember the past events. Fighting the way my mind wanted to go running to mommy and have her compliment what a pretty girl I was, instead I grabbed my clothes off the floor, grabbed the doll and ducked into my room.
My room looked more and more like a girl's room, but I had no time to look at it. Stripping off the ballerina costume, I paused and looked at my body. Gazing into a full body mirror, I saw that my body had changed some more. My skin was softer, my brown hair was longer and softer and on top of all that I looked like the way I had looked when I was about nine or ten years old. Downstairs I could hear my mother calling, "Marcus, we're home. Katherine had a dentist and doctor's appointment that took longer then expected. Have you eaten yet? Marcus?"
Looking at the clock, seeing that it was a little bit after five, I grabbed my clothes, threw them on the bed, grabbed the costume and threw that into the closet and paused. Without really thinking about it, I untangled the Hello Kitty panties from the rest of the girl clothes and pulled them on.
My mind slipped, but I was able to push it back with a shake of my head. Not really paying attention to the underwear I was wearing, I pulled on my clothes, threw my boxers into the hamper in the closet and just as I was about to find my mommy, I stopped.
Taking my wallet out of my pocket, I looked at the school ID. It said that I was a fifteen year old male and I attended Thomas Jefferson Junior High. Not sure why it was that I needed to see that, I stuffed the piece of plastic back into my wallet and putting the wallet back in my pocket, I saw the doll laying on the floor. Picking it up, managing to keep my mind straight, I tossed it onto the bed and covered it with the sheets and the comforter.
Flipping a strand of brown hair out of my face, I went to find out what mommy had for dinner. But first I had to go pee.
