The Beginning

added 14 years ago O

Monday's morning sun rose slowly to its throne in the sky, casting its divine glow across the quiet suburbs that Harken called home. It silently and lazily crept through any spots it could, shining directly in Hark's eyes. He had no choice, he had to get up! He had forgotten about that weird crystal from last night. You’d think that someone would remember a crystal penetrating their skull.

"Good morning.” A woman's voice rang from thin air, making Hark jump to his feet and spin around his room.

"W-Wh-Who-What?" Harken stuttered, "Show yourself!"

"Le sigh~ I'm over here, in the mirror."

"The mirror?"

"Are you a parrot? Yes. The mirror. Come here now."

"So pushy..." He whined but obeyed.

The voice sounded snarky and reminded him of someone who was just so... Bored. When he positioned himself in front of the mirror, he saw a woman- No, a young teenage girl clad in azure robes with an odd looking hat. She was holding a purple stuffed animal and wore glasses. She had this cocky look about her, one that you often see on most intellectuals.

"I'm Infel." She curtly began, "I'm sort of your power's voice. You know, something there to help you discover your true potential and sort of the rule maker as well. To keep it short, I’m like your assistant."

"What do you mean discover my true potential?" Harken asked with a dumbfounded look upon his face.

"Your new powers can be used to defend this little town from any misfortunes. You can also punish those by making their own bodes their prison cell... Or you can help them out. It's really all up to how merciful you are. As of now, all you can do is change their human forms into other humans. You need to be really powerful in order to curse them with another form entirely. So all you can do is cast magic spells to dispatch evil foes and use your powers to help or hurt others. You’re now technically a god in human form… So that means you have limits. It’s a shame to see my reincarnation be such a ‘slow’ boy… But you’re the only one with a pure heart around here.”

“So do you always respond with more than one sentence?” Harken piped up with a smart ass question, finding this other entity to be quite annoying.

“Depends, do you always ask trivial questions? Just know that I am here and stated my whole business of coming here. Please oh please use your powers for something noble. The last guy made himself into a muscle man as soon as I mentioned everything. He ballooned up so thick that he became immobile and couldn’t chant his spells. He died soon after… That was actually quite entertaining to watch. All you need to do is say a chant and will for something to happen. There are quite a few chants and you know them automatically thanks to that crystal of mine. Keep in mind that you can only change a person if you know their name. If a person has a strong will, you’ll have to actually know them or they would have to want to change. Other than that, your offensive magic spells can just blast the matter out of anything.”

“I feel like I’m back at school.” Harken complained.

“Well I’m trying to shove simple pointers into that brain of yours. You’re now a sage sort of. I wouldn’t use your powers in public, or else you’ll be in trouble with more than just the local media and police force. There are evil things out there that you must defeat. I should also mention that you can’t enhance your form unless you earn it. If you use your powers in vain, you will be punished like that man I mentioned earlier – by your own powers no less! I love comedic irony~ If you’re merciless and harm people, your form will reflect that. If you’re a brave hero of sorts, your form will reflect that… Get it?”

“Yeah, I think I do… But what if I need help?” Harken asked, shaking a bit from the gravity of the situation.

“I’ll always be around; I’m basically in your brain now. It’s easier to talk to you through reflective surfaces. It’s hard to be heard in your head since your thoughts are whizzing about. With that, I’m off… Oh, I should also warn you… Down by the beach is this terrible baddy. He’s justa-swimming in the water and no one can see him… He likes to munch on people’s souls, leaving lifeless corpses in his wake… He’s rather simple and great for a beginner such as you. I suppose this is your chance to prove yourself. Let’s see if you sink or swim.”
