Even though you want to run you have enough sense to know that you probably wouldn't get very far. Forcing down the rising panic you look at what you're carrying. You're dismayed to see that you're not carrying much. Just a bag with some food, water, and clothes. No weapons of any kind. You pick up the dead man's rifle and check the magazine. Instead of bullets it seems to be a battery pack. The man also had some water and what looked to be ration bars.
As you're looking through the guy's pockets you hear a gruff voice ask "What are you doing?"
You slowly turn around to see a man pointing a rifle at you. You gulp and said "I'm just trying to survive. He was dead when I got here."
The guy lowered his rifle and said "I know you didn't kill him. This place was crawling with T-800s just a little bit ago. My name's Mike. What's yours?"
"Alice" you said saying the first female name that came to your mind. You also breath an inward sigh of relief. If Skynet is using the T-800s in such numbers then it must not have developed the T-1000 or the T-X yet.
"Well Alice it's not safe here" Mike said.
"It's not safe anywhere" you said.
"There are places that are safer than others" Mike said. "I'll take you to one such place. Maybe you could help us if you're willing."
You think it over. You were going to be here for only a week and it would be nice to have a relatively safe place to stay during that time. You couldn't join the resistance but you could take them up on the offer of a place to stay. "I'll come with you" you said.
Mike nodded and said "Help me with Charlie's equipment. Do you know how to use that rifle?"
"I have an idea" you said. You look it over and notice a switch with three settings; single, burst, and auto. It was currently set to burst. "Do you want me to keep it on burst or switch to auto?"
"Put it on single fire" Mike said. "At least until you get used to the recoil."
You were surprised that an energy weapon would have a recoil but you switched it to single fire like Mike said. Soon the two of you were weaving your way out of the building and through the streets. As Mike had told you you kept to the shadows, always on alert for any sign of Terminators. A few times you spotted HKs in the sky but fortunately they didn't see you. Mike led you around groups of T-800 and T-850s.
Your luck didn't hold out however as you met up with two T-850s rounding a corner. Without a word Mike brought up his weapon and shot the Terminator on the right. Evidently classifying you as a non-threat the remaining Terminator turned toward Mike. Before it was able to fire however you had squeezed off a couple of your own aiming at it's eyes. You were able to take out it's eyes in spite of the recoil which was more than you thought. Mike ducked and so did you. Aiming up into it's head you both fire. It seemed that luck was with you still.
"Let's go" Mike said. "This area will soon be crawling with Terminators. There's a sewer nearby that we'll be able to use."
You didn't say anything but followed Mike as quickly as you could. As you did you made sure to switch the rifle back to burst. You didn't want to be firing single shots if you came across anymore Terminators. Fortunately you made it to the manhole cover and were able to descend into the sewer.
Traveling through the sewer was a little safer than traveling the streets but only just. There were sections that had collapsed at some point which left you open to being seen crossing those sections. Your luck held out though and you weren't discovered. Soon you reached your destination.
