Jared sat next to the whimpering dog for a second before she smacked him across the nose. "Shut up, you twit. You were planning on keeping me as some kind of sex slave, so you don't get any sympathy from me!"
The dog looked sadder, but could only bark in protest.
Jared held up the amulet, "This is the cause of both our pain. I accidentally turned myself into a dog last year, then into a doe before I realized what was happening. I've been living out here for a year before I found the thing again, and managed to at least make myself human."
At the dogs quizical look, she smiled, "Yeah, the doe you were going to rape was once a teenaged boy. Think on that for a bit."
The dog pawed at the amulet, but Jared just shoved it into a pack. "There's some kind of time limit on the thing, so you aren't going to be human for a little while. Hell, once I get back to myself, I'm dropping this thing down the darkest, deepest hole I can find. So you better make yourself scarce for a while. I don't think I want to see you for a while."
The dog slowly slinked out of the campsite. Jared dressed in the mans clothes and took stock of things. He needed to get back to town and figure out what was going on. He assumed that he was considered missing, and Jared had no way to explain where he'd been. Telling anyone that he'd spent a year raising fawns would likely get him sent to the loony bin.
There was also the matter of the now missing teenager that had been turned into a buck, and now the camper James.
Jared couldn't decide what to do. He looked for a while, trying to find the buck, but without success. He had simply vanished into the woods. He called out a few times, but never got an answer.
After a while, Jared packed James camping equipment into his car, and without waiting for the dog to return, drove off.
