"We might as well get dressed and eat breakfast," said Nicky, in the nonchalant way she still had even as a clown. Sighing, Olivia slumped down back onto her bed.
Tiffany walked over to the closet; he mouth dropped open at the clothes inside. "I can't decide what to wear, it's all so cute!" she squealed.
"You can play dress-up later," said Nicky, picking out a purple-pink cocktail dress. "And you better get dressed too Ollie. Maybe they'll let you go to school in those pajamas but why take the chance?"
Sighing, Olivia got off her bed and stepped over to the closet. Somehow she automatically knew which clothes were hers; something having to do with color-coordinating to their face markings and hair color. She took out a pair of magenta red coveralls and a blue and white horizontal striped shirt. Looking into her dresser, she shook her head. Why did they have to make the bras and panties in such gaudy colors? No one was going to see them.
She got out of her pajamas and into her strange clothes; at least they were'nt exceptionally puffy or baggy like most of them in the closet. Olivia next pulled on a pair of socks that matched her shirt and blue soled red tennis shoes. She looked at her and her sister's feet, and noticed hers were the longest and had the widest toes.
Olivia stood up, fully dressed. She saw that Nicky's cocktail dress was bordered with blue ruffles and had blue pom-poms down the middle. Blue and purple striped stocking rant down from the hem of her skirt to into clown mary janes that matched her dress. Nicky topped her pink bob with a bell shaped purple-pink hat that had a blue bow in the center. Yet somehow it looked quite elegant and stylish on her.
Tiffany as if in contrast was the very model of silliness. She was wearing a red bordered orange blouse and green apron dress covered with little pink roses. She even accented her outfit with a fluffy orange petticoat and bloomers. Her feet were fitted with yellow and green checkered socks, and yellow saddled green high-tops.
"At least nobody will have trouble telling us apart," said Nicky. Olivia rolled her eyes; Tiffany laughed as if it was the funniest thing she ever heard.
The triplets walked out of their room into the hallway. The walls of the house were painted in bright gaudy colors and murals of circus scenes. At least the layout seemed the same, Olivia muttered to herself as they walked down the stairs.
They entered the dining room, and saw(surprise) a clown sitting at the table. He stood up and honked his nose. "How are my three beautiful girls today!"
"Just great, Daddy" Tiffany honked her nose back. Olivia just stared. This man had the same milk white skin they did, with a big red mouth and nose, and both orange patches like Tiffany's and blue crosses like Nicky's around his eyes. A thick mass of multicolored hair surrounded the edges of an otherwise bald head. He was a little shorter and somewhat pudgier than the man she remembered, yet somehow she recognized her father.
"Oh good, you're down for breakfast." Olivia turned and saw her mother come out of the kitchen. "I've got the day off from work, so I made French Toast and turkey bacon."
Mom had the same milky complexion as the rest of them. Her nose was smaller, barely the size of a ping-pong ball, and pink. Her hair was neon yellow and curled into a bushy afro. She was dressed in a pink bathrobe covered with white polka dots. Olivia could only see the tips of house slippers underneath her mother's robe, but she could tell they were at least nine inches wide.
Olivia sat down; Mom set a slice of French toast and bacon on her plate. Olivia took a bite of her toast. At least the food was normal, she thought with some relief.
"Oh boy!" cried a voice like Fozzie Bear's. Olivia looked and saw her brothers Patric and Nathan, and her younger sister Nelly, coming into the room. And surprise surprise, the three of them were clowns. Nelly and Nathan both had the same multicolored hair as Dad, although Nelly wore her's in an afro like Mom's. Patrick's hair was neon yellow like their mother's-or what was left of it. Olivia giggled in spite of herself. Patrick going bald? At fourteen?
Nicky whispered into Olivia's ear. "Notice something Ollie?"
"What?"
"Nelly and Nathan have normal sized noses, with red dots on them. And their feet are normal sized too."
Olivia looked at her younger siblings. "Yeah, I see," she whispered back.
"Maybe it's something that starts when they hit puberty. I just thought I'd mention it."
