"Can I help you with anything?"
"Maybe..." Kyle had taken his first few steps in a store that had opened up a month ago. He had walked by it on his way to and from school, and had only ever peeked in the windows every now and then. But his best friend Dave was turning seventeen in two days, and he still didn't have a gift. Dave had given him a new key chain for his birthday the week before.
He was surprised to say the least, he and Dave were having a bit of a falling out. They didn't really hang out with each other as much as they use to, and when they did, they didn't really say much to each other. But Dave had remembered Kyle's birthday, so Kyle was determined to get him something too.
"I'm looking for a gift for my friend. It's his birthday in two days, and I have no clue what to get him." Kyle was glancing around at all the strange things on the shelves and hanging from the ceiling. "I um, thought I would take a look around here."
"Well, you made the right choice! I have all kinds of goodies that you've never seen before! So, tell be about your friend, what does he like?" The man behind the counter leaned back in his chair and put his legs up with his hands behind his head.
"I'm not really sure..." Kyle rubbed the back of his neck and tried to think about Dave, and what he liked. "I can't think of anything. We don't really hang out that much, and our friendship isn't as strong as it use to be."
"Hmmm..." The shop keeper closed his eyes and thought. A minute later he jumped out of his chair, "I have the perfect thing! Come with me!" He gestured Kyle to follow him around the counter and into the back room. Kyle shrugged, it was worth a shot after all.
He walked over to the owner who was rummaging through a box, "Sorry, I still haven't unpacked everything from the move. It should be here somewhere... Ah! Here it is!" He turned around with a little carved wooden box in his hands. He passed it to Kyle so he could have a look. When Kyle opened it, he wasn't sure what to think.
Inside, there was little metallic two headed eagle on two different chains. He reached in and pulled it out, but it looked like it snapped in half down the middle. He looked up at the owner, worried. The owner saw Kyle's expression and laughed, "It's ok. It was made like that for a reason."
"Ya. What's that?"
"It's perfect for you and your friend. The two people who wear each half, are suppose to become the closest of friends." The shop keeper grinned wickedly when Kyle looked back down. "It should help your friendship get strong again."
Kyle was thinking about it in his head. Could this little thing really help him and Dave. He never believed in any of this 'magic' stuff, but what could it hurt to try. He needed something to give Dave, and he had no luck with anything else. Plus it looked really cool! "Ok, I'll take it."
Kyle threw the right half over his head and around his neck. He looked in the a mirror to check it out. It looked all right on its own, but it was nothing without the other piece. He held up the other half, but he still couldn't picture it, "Hey. This might sound stupid, but could you put this on so I can see what they look like together?"
The owner coughed and cleared his throat, "No, sorry. It's for you and your friend, right? You should try them on together." He then lead Kyle back out to the counter.
"Ummm, ok. So, how much is it?" Kyle asked.
"Well, I like you, so how about ten bucks?"
"Ok" Kyle handed over the money with the left half still in his hand.
"Awesome. One other thing... No refunds. No Returns. No exchanges."
"Ok, whatever." Kyle shrugged, "If he doesn't like it, I can give it to someone else."
