Jennifer felt a full body flush run over her body. She shook it off and tossed the phone away. The fool, she thought, the curse isn't real.
At school Jennifer pushed through the hall full of people to her locker. As she walked she greeted and smiled at the choice persons anyone of her stature would deal with. High-school was a world of politics and social standings. Or so she wanted to believe.
"Hey, Jennifer." Her friend Cathy said to her when she arrived by her locker. "Ready for the game today?"
"Cathy, what kind of cheer-leader would I be if I weren't?" Jennifer said snidely. Both girls were dressed in cheer uniform as was the tradition of the school. Big sports days were school spirit days. "Hey, Cathy, did Tim come over to your house last night?"
Cathy's already smiling face spread even more. "Yeah, he did." Cathy's perfectly tan complexion started to go a little red.
"And?" Jennifer pressed. It was a well known fact that Cathy and Tim were soon to be an item. The gossip of her grade was buzzing behind closed doors and passed notes. Jennifer wanted to be first to know all the details. Starring at her friend closely Jennifer tried to read what Cathy was not willing to tell.
"And what, Jenn?" Cathy said trying to be evasive and coy while at the same time trying to send as many signals as possible. "Tim came over for dinner last night and we watched movies."
"Is that all?" Jennifer was entranced. There was more and she knew it.
"What more, Jennifer? My parents were home and besides Jenn, it's not like we going out." Cathy was thinking hard now Jennifer could see her eyes drift to the horizon.
"Did he ask you out, Cathy?" Jennifer asked. Suddenly she felt something prick her lips.
"He would have to Jenn, if he wanted to make out like we did after my parents went to bed. Ha!" Cathy was bright and over joyed.
There was then a bout of girlish jumping and general revelry.
When that had passed Jennifer pressed on, "Was it good?"
Cathy was again quite and dreamily thoughtful. After a moment she blurted "Ooh yeah."
Jennifer felt a tingling on her lips and she lost track of the conversation. Her lips felt hot for a moment before it subsided. Jennifer wondered if her lips were becoming chapped. Grabbing her lip balm she found her small mirror. Inspecting her lips she applied liberal amounts of balm to her lips which seemed a little swollen and redder than before. Searching through her locker she stuffed books into her bag. It would be a long day at school yet.
