"Ya, and where are they?!" Kyle yelled, yanking his father up with him to their feet. Josh didn't seem to understand with the confused look on his face. "The chains Josh. Where are they?"
"There right here, calm down!" Josh yelled back. He reached into his back pocket, but couldn't find them. "Crap! They're not in my pocket! Where are they?!"
"That's what I'd like to know!" Kyle shouted in frustration, "I can't believe you lost them! What if they're the key to getting apart?!"
"Kyle, calm down!" Owen yelled right in his ear. Kyle gave him a death look and rubbed his ear, but didn't say anything. Owen faced Josh and let out a long breath, "Josh, you said that book might help right?"
"...Ya..."
"Ok, what does it say." Owen asked calmly. He and Kyle fought against each other as they stumbled to the couch and sat down. Josh hesitated but came over and sat down too, next to Kyle's side.
He flipped the book open to the table of contents, then to the first page about the chains. There was a picture that showed the chains that Kyle had bought, and he gasped and pointed right at it. Josh nodded, then started to read. "Ok... This pair of eagle chains is said to have magical power. No one know when they were made but... blah blah blah. Ah here! It is said that they first appeared in the middle ages and were made by a witch to solve problems of dispute and stop wars. When ever two factions started to fight... blah blah... during the meetings the chains would appear from no where, and the leaders would be bewitched by their power and put them on."
"Wait... me and dad aren't enemies." Kyle interrupted, but was quickly shushed by Owen.
"Like I was saying..." Josh cleared his throat, "They would then be united and unable to separate. This would essentially stop the fighting. The leaders wouldn't be able to kill each other, because they themselves would end up dieing. Once they had come to terms with their new life, they would begin working together, keeping the peace for the rest of their life." Josh flipped to page to read on, but that was all that was written. "That's it."
"That's it?!" Kyle's voice was raised.
"That can't be it..." Owen said in disbelief, but after looking at the book, he too found nothing. "So how did they ever get apart?!"
"They didn't dad..." Josh said quietly, "It just said they had to work together for the rest of their life."
Owen shook his head, then stared at Kyle. Kyle still didn't want to believe it, "So... We're just suppose to accept this?"
"I guess so..." Josh sounded defeated. He wanted to help, but couldn't. Josh leaned over, and gave his little brother and father a hug, "I'm sorry..."
Both Owen and Kyle hugged him back, "Josh, it's ok, your brother and me... I'm sure we'll do fine."
"But what about the other two?" Kyle asked.
"Other two?" Josh's ears perked up.
"Ya, we got another note saying two other people had be joined with the chain." Kyle said, watching the blood drain from Josh's face. Josh jumped up and ran to his coat, frantically searching for his phone.
