Giggling, Kat peered into the tank and squealed out, "Is my little Danni girl hiding," as she took from a drawer beneath the tank a plastic box with tiny holes in the top.
Squeaking in alarm, Dan tried to burrow deeper, but hit the bottom of the tank. Moving away from the approaching hand, she tried to cry out, "Leave me alone! I don't want to be mated," but all that came out were the usual noises of a mouse.
Giggling some more, Kat scooped the mouse up and safely deposited her into the plastic box. Dropping some clean bedding in, she explained, "Well that is just to bad. Because as soon as we are done at the vet and we have the proper information, you have a date," and giggling even more, she snapped the top on, checked the air holes and then skipped out of the room.
Panicking, Dan searched the container, but was disappointed to learn that except for the air holes, which were to small for her to squeeze her body through, the container was sealed.
Around her, the hallway flashed by and then the stairs, out the door and into a car, driven by their mom.
Rushing the side of the container, Dan squeaked out, "Mom! Mom! You have got to help me! Can't you see that I am your son and not some stupid pet of my sister's. Please! Please! Listen to me."
Giggling quietly, Kat leaned down and whispered, "She cannot understand you. And besides. She doesn't even remember having a son. Now! Be quiet before I turn you into an immortal ferret, instead of an immortal mouse. A ferret that is always in heat. Except when she is pregnant or nursing," and giggling some more, she sits up.
Horrified, Dan burrowed beneath the bedding as their mother stopped the car and looked back at Kat. Noticing the mouse, she cooed out, "Poor little thing is frightened," and leaning closer to the container, she gently cooed, "Don't worry little doe. Soon you will be safe and sound back in your cage. But first we must make sure you aren't sick or have any other problems."
Terrified by the loud noises and hating the way her mother is talking to her, Dan curls up tighter as Kat exits the vehicle and goes into the vet's office.
Unsure of what is going on, Dan refused to uncurl and after a moment, a woman's voice said, "Okay. Let's take a look at Danni," as the mouse felt the container shift and uncurling just a bit, Dan realised that she had been handed to someone else.
Taken into the back of the Vet's, Dan was removed from the box and for the next hour she was poked, prodded and stuck with various bits of instruments, but she remained silent through the whole thing, even when having something stuck in her mouse privates and a thermometer placed rectally.
Returned to her box, Dan watched as she was carried back through the building and returned to Kat, who was told, "I'm waiting for a couple more test results, but from what I can so far Danni is a healthy Doe. She should be perfectly capable of mating, if that is what you want. My bill will be in the mail," and turning the Vet left, leaving Kat holding onto the container with Dan.
Smiling, Kat held the container up and looking through the plastic walls, she whispered out, "You'll make a pretty mommy as soon as Jen brings over Mike," and giggling, she started out to the car and home.
