The girls had been having a good time at the mall. April, Bets, Chastity, and Diane did the same thing every Friday after school: Celebrate the beginning weekend bcruising the mall.
They had just finished eating at the food court, and got on the escalator when Bets saw the man standing in line at one of the court restautants. He was easily 250 pounds, NONE of it muscle! Because of his size, he used suspenders to hold up his jeans instead of a belt. He had long, frizzy hair. And he wore a t-shirt that had a Saturday morning cartoon character on the chest!
Bets giggled and said "There he is, April!" The others followed Bets' gaze, saw the man, and joined in the giggling. They whispered to each other, not caring that the man was watching them, had seen them laughing at him.
They did not see the man's eyes squint at each of them, and the energy that shot from those eyes was invisible, so no one could see it.
Bets was the first. She felt a funny feeling all over for a second. Then it passed. The same happened to each of the girls. It was so fast, none of them decided to say anything about it.
They left the mall, got on the bus, and headed for home.
