"No," Emily said after some thought. "I want to focus. Take advantage of this form. I'll still be able to do all the work." She had always liked the goats, and now that she was in a position to share their qualities and point of view, she wasn't about to walk away from it. "Thinking of more traits. They like to chew on stuff, right? I caught one nibbling my shirt once."
The woman chuckled. "Yes, they sure are versatile eaters. I once had a goat familiar. Beautiful thing. It had a distinctively beautiful bleat."
"Bleat?"
"Oh yes, it was adorable, that sound."
"I like hearing them bleat. Alwaaaays wondered whaaaat they were taaalking abouuu...abaaa...baaaaa..."
"Goodness, child, concentrate. Speak clearly!"
Emily cleared her throat. "Waaaaa...huff...wow. Thaaaat waaas so weeeeird."
"Picked that up right quick, you did. An almost perfect impression."
"I baaarely haaaaad to think aaabaaaaut it. It just staaarted."
"Not a problem, dear, just keep concentrating and it should go away completely."
"Naaaaaa...no, I liiike it. Maaaybeeee naaaaaw I caaan taaaaalk to theeem."
"But at the expense of English?"
Emily concentrated on speaking normally for a minute so she could be understood. "Don't neeeeed much English on a faaarm. If I haaaave to taalk, I'll take off the necklaaaaace."
"If you insist," the woman shrugged. "You call the shots, my girl. I just hope all this is what you really want."
"I won't reeeaaally know until I geeet there tomaaaarow," Emily replied. "Just gottaaaaa go wiiiith baaah...myyy feeliiiings." Her voice became slow and labored. A big part of her was longing to embrace the goat consciousness planted within her. "Aaaa...I caaaaan't hold iiiit. Maaaa...Mind waaaaaants toooo bleeeeat... Baaaaah, baaaaaaaaaa..."
"It's okay, don't force it," the woman said. She came as close as she could to Emily without entering the boundary of the circle. "I'm ready to enact the spell to impress your current body and mind on the necklace. If you want to make any more changes, now is your last chance." Her gentle voice became unusually stern. "Be absolutely sure this is what you want."
