Cara's muffled sobs became louder as Emily and Leigh cautiously pushed opened the door and peeked inside. Her back was to them as she was leaning against the sink furthest from the door, staring into the mirror. Her wild mane of dark hair obscuring her reflection from her would-have-been rescuers. The canine scent in the room was heavy and musky and almost overwhelming to Emily, who was finding it harder and harder to keep it together.
"Oh no, oh no, oh no..." Cara was repeating to herself, still too focused on the mirror to yet notice the door opening behind her even with her heightened senses. She wiped a tear from her face and sniffled.
"Cara...? Honey...?" Emily asked carefully and began to step towards her friend, her heart heavy with sorrow. But just then she started feeling extremely hot all over, and a spasm in her spine made her lose balance, Leigh grabbing her just in time.
"Please, Emily, try to hold it in a bit longer." Leigh gently whispered. "I know it's hard, but we have to get you both out of here asap."
At their voices, Cara finally turned to face them. Her expression a daunting mixture of humiliation, surprise, misery, questioning, and fear as she saw Emily and Leigh. Emily and Leigh froze for a second as they looked upon Cara and witnessed the changes the full moon had begun. Changes that had unfortunately begun on her first having been the first to touch the flower.
At the sight of her friends, Cara's eyes once again welled with more tears, which streamed down and caught in the heavy dark fuzz that adorned her cheeks. Her eyebrows too were heavy and bushy, accentuating her pleading expression above slightly amber eyes. Noticeably longer canines protruded the corners of her quivering mouth as her lips could no longer fully contain them nor could her wild hair fully contain her elfish ears. Her whole body was shaking uncontrollably as she pitifully itched at the copious dark hair that sprouted on her forearms with now talon-like nails.
"Wh-What's happening to me...?" Came the question everyone was expecting.
"There's no time to explain, hon. It'll be ok, we just need to leave right now!" Leigh urged them both. There would be time for sympathy and explanations later. Right now she needed to get Cara and Emily out while they might still pass for human. Or was that even possible? She needed to think fast. Emily was already looking a bit shaky, however the changes hadn't yet started on her in earnest. What should she do?
