"Wait a minute..."
Kelly walked back into the principals office.
"Miss Saunders?"
"Yes?"
"I just suddenly out of the blue recalled a few problems in your argument."
"It wasn't an argument Miss Summers, it was an order."
"Yes, but please, humor me."
Miss Saunders had plenty of time to put her plan into place, so despite being annoyed, she let Kelly Summers
speak.
"Fine. What logical fallacies did you see in my suggestion?"
"First of all" started Kelly, "you were making an absurd appeal to my emotions by comparing the lack of non
white cheerleaders to racial segregation. Not only is that fallacious by it's very own premises, it's actually
rather insulting to people who actually were oppressed prior to the Civil Rights Act of 1964. You can't
compare an after school activity in which no money and little academic merit is made to a genuine lack of
academic freedom and lack of workplace opportunity. Besides, cheer leading in one respect is meant only yo
titillate an audience full of teenage boys and maybe their fathers. Do you have anything against exploitation
against females and men objectifying their bodies?
"Second, if there is institutionalized racism, you won't be able to stop it by childishly attempting to guilt
a teenage girl into taking some of her friends off the team. If these matters concern you, why aren't you
working at the state or federal level? These girls who are currently on the team WANT to be cheerleaders, and
try and recruit other students who, at best, simply don't have the same level of training and years of
experience that me, Robin, Kate, and the rest all have would seriously impact morale and the impact we've all
had on each other's performances. I've put up signs recruiting for new members, and the ones did who show up
treated the sport like a joke. There simply ARE no other girls at this school who are interested or qualified
enough."
Kelly continued to chew out Miss Saunder's protestations for several more minutes...
*There's already a high number of cheerleaders on the team
