Megan had no idea that it was even possible, but chimpanzee and human DNA are more alike than donkey and horse
DNA. Of course, like the mule the donkey and horse produce, the new Willie is shooting blanks. His arms are
nearly as long as always, but for a 7-year old he's pretty hairier. He's standing next to the stove with his
pants and underwear around his ankles staring at the opposable thumbs on his feet. While he panics trying to
figure out what is happening to him, Megan starts down the stairs. Suddenly, his oversize shirt starts to
shrink, but the sleeves adjust to his chimp-human hybrid physique. His recut pants and diaper wriggle up his
legs under the power of an unseen force. Willie blinks. Everything his normal. At least from his perspective.
Bonzo the chimpanzee had been an experimental lab animal when in the former timeline, Willie and Megan had
worked there before they won the lottery. So naturally, they bought Bonzo and made him their pet. Apparently,
in the new reality, Megan had won the lottery and liberate Bonzo, and shortly after liberating him, got drunk
and did things which are unspeakable. Willie was the result.
Megan, of course, being aware of the changes that appear normal to everyone else, gasped when she saw the
monstrous half-human child by the stove.
"Wah wong, mama?" Willie asked in his odd half-ape, half-human voice. He wasn't retarded, but his larynx
weren't really designed to say hard consonants, the way human one's are.
Megan was already half-way up the stairs on her way to the Chronivac. The phone rang as she was passing it,
and she picked it up.
"Hey, Megan, it's Phil, I just wanted to let you know that Reverend Lovejoy is going to be on the Today Show
demanding that the government take Willie and euthanize him as an abomination and put you in jail for sleeping
with Bonzo..."
"I slept with Bonzo?"
"Well, we all know you don't remember it, you were pretty drunk, but Willie's all the evidence needed to prove
it happened," her attorney said.
"Phil, what's your number. I'll call you back," Megan said. She planned to reset the Chronivac as soon as
she got upstairs, but would call this Phil back afterward just to find out who he is.
She opened the door...
