Keula pads over to the bitch and noses at her ears playfully in hopes of distracting Amber. Surprised the malamute bitch seems to know what a buyer is he ponders his course of action. Did the musher talk about buyers within hearing of the dog pens? But as his mate begins responding to the affection with tender licks to the underside of his muzzle Keula lets himself relax.
“I remember the first time I met a buyer.” Keula begins as he lays down atop Amber. “My dam was none too happy at first. My brothers and sisters where so excited to the point even the most shy of us would run up to the humans and let them touch us.”
Amber lays still finding the warmth of the male comforting as the gentle tone of his voice almost brings the sight of puppies leaving their mother alive before her eyes. A voice whispers into her thoughts that she is in fact remembering her own time as a puppy. “No.” She thinks as a different picture forms in her head. One of a little human girl and an adult human female that can only be the dam of the girl. The eyes of the mother moist as she tells her daughter to hurry or she will be late for her first day of school.
“We could not wait to pull sleds. Roti even bragged that he would get to be a lead dog. Legi laughed at him so this started a puppy fight between the dog and bitch. As our sire was a well known winner of races so we all thought to be just like him.” His tone staying even he noses one of the bitches ears as he whispers more of the story to her.
The picture changes in Amber’s mind once more till it shows a large malamute bitch licking at her puppy then nosing it forward. “Hurry or you might not get picked to pull a sled.” At this the puppy Amber gives a quick yip and jumps over one of her litter mates as she races over to a kneeling human that begins petting her.
