"If you're sure about this, then..." Tobi dropped a card in front of Lissy and read it aloud. "Nature: Dryad. Gain beauty and communication with plants. Life force linked to nearest oak."
Lissy's eyes widened and she waited expectantly for the change. Suddenly, her limbs felt liquid as they reshaped and became more slender. She also felt her waist thin to a perfect hourglass. The liquid sensation then moved to her ears and face, but she couldn't tell what they were doing until she brought her hands to her ears and felt them growing to points. Her eyes had also taken on the typical elven almond shape.
There was one more change she didn't feel, but Tobi pointed it out. "Look at your hair!"
Lissy pushed a lock of hair in front of her face and her reshaped eyes widened as she saw it was green. She opened her mouth to speak, but only gasped as the next phase of the change hit her. While her friends could only look on in confusion, Lissy collapsed as she felt her life's energy being sucked away. Just as she was sure she was dying, she felt strength flowing back. Instinctively, she knew it was different. She was being kept alive by an oak tree in the game, just as the tree was now sustained by her life force. And then she realized what else she'd gained in the bargain.
"I can see you, in the game!" she exclaimed to Dina. "There's an oak tree on a cliff overlooking the river. I can see through it!"
"Why does the horrible stuff only happen to me?" Dina answered, gesturing at her tail. "I hate this thing! Now you just look prettier and can see more. It's not fair!"
Mary reached for the dice and said, "Just hold on. We're in this together for a long way yet, and your luck is bound to change. Maybe Lissy can help you out in the meantime."
