"I was affected by it. I made the mistake of cheating on my boyfriend. I didn't know he had the power of transform or dare. He found out and used it on me. But we can talk about me later. I want to know about you; what happened to you?"
Jen recounted the whole story from the point of Kyle's phone call up until her recent physical encounter with him. She felt a bit guilty, revealing Sam as well, but once she started talking, she couldn't stop. It was as though she was compelled to tell the truth, every sordid detail of it.
"That's quite a tale, Jennifer," Ms. Davidson told her. "But I'll let you in on a little secret; the principal believes in truth or dare. Of course he can't really admit to it, and he has to act very stern and outraged about what's happened, but I'll speak with him. I don't see any reason your parents should be notified."
"Thank you, oh thank you, Ms. Davidson!" Jen hopped up, giving her a hug. "But before I go, do you mind telling me what your boyfriend cursed you with?"
Again the wry smile appeared on Ms. Davidson's face. "No, my dear, not at all." She got up from her desk, moving to lock the office door. " He was very angry and very foolish. It turned out that he'd been dared to speak his mind at all times. When he used the power on me, it was his undoing. I chose transform, thinking it all a game. I laughed at him, which only made him more angry."
Ms. Davidson was grinning madly now, pacing the room excitedly. "It was his wording, his wording that set me free! If he'd not had to speak his mind, things could have gone much worse." She took off her glasses, laying them on the desk. "Do you want to see what he did, Jennifer? I can show you if you like."
"Yes," Jen said, wanting to know.
