As the classroom door opened, Eve was stunned to recognize the geeky looking man entering the room. She had no
idea where she knew him from, but this stranger in his early thirties looked and felt intimately familiar to
Eve.
He smiled awkwardly at the class and introduced himself as Mister Sherman... Tim Sherman.
Eve's jaw silently dropped.
Tim? Her imaginary friend from childhood? How was this possible?
But deep down in her subconscious, Eve instinctively knew that this clumsy, nerdy teacher was her imaginary
friend from childhood... somehow made real, and all grown up now! As a little girl, Eve had always pictured
Tim as a teenager, roughly fifteen years old say. If he were to age into an older man, this Mister Sherman was
exactly who he would be.
Eve watched him begin instructing the class. She knew everything about him. His mannerisms, his style of
teaching, his body language, the corny jokes he used. She had an eerie sensation of deja vu about almost
everything Mister Sherman said. Had she wanted, Eve probably could've mouthed along with him in perfect unison
throughout the pre-calc lecture.
What the hell was going on?
Eve had always been an odd girl and a social outcast over the strange things she sometimes said and did. She'd
experienced several unexplained phenomena throughout her life already: hearing voices, seeing visions, and
sometimes catching fleeting glimpses of supernatural beings out of the corner of her eye. Nobody had ever
believed her, so she'd learned long ago to keep silent about most of this.
But today...
Meeting Mister Sherman was the singular most paranormal moment of Eve's life.
And she had no idea why.
What was her connection to this man? Something in the back of her mind told Eve that her new teacher was
somehow tied to Paul Hodgson. But she couldn't grasp how or why that should be so. And even if he were tied to
this mysterious Paul Hodgson, what did that have to do with Eve? She'd never even met Paul. Why was she so
obsessed with him? Why did she feel this bizarre, intimate connection with Mister Sherman? What was wrong with
Eve Jones? Why, she thought, oh why couldn't she just be a normal teenage girl, like all the other vapid,
gossipy idiots on the cheerleader squad?
All her life, Eve had felt oddly misplaced. But now at this moment, she knew something exceptionally
supernatural was (or had been) centered on her. And somehow it tied peripherally into Mister Sherman and the
mysterious Paul Hodgson. She had no proof. Eve just knew it, deep in the pit of her stomach. She was on the
verge of discovering some great, terrible truth.
If only she knew how to go about doing it.
