"No. Goodbye, Stephanie Helms." Janet said icily, and Steve felt his heart jump into his throat.
"No! Janet you can't do this to me! What about-" He began, his voice near shrieking as he begged his former
wife to save him from his new fate.
"I wish that you would stop speaking until I hang up the phone" Janet's voice said flatly, and Steve felt his
voice vanish. He clutched at his throat with his small hand, trying his hardest to scream but not even the
slightest whisper escaped his full lips.
"This was supposed to be for us. A chance for us to reconnect, a chance for you to see things from my point of
view. But you made your choice, you'd rather go run off with your stupid baseball hero and leave me all alone
with the bill. No, you wanted to meet your hero, and you got your wish. I just wish I had gotten mine" Janet
said, he voice turning from cold steel to near tears trembling.
"I-I d-don't ever want to s-see you again. I w-wish that you were born as Stephanie Donaldson, and t-that you
knew how to act as a woman, feel as a woman, think a-as a woman, and remember your old life and miss it but n-
never being able to voice who you used to be. I wish that y-you will not be able to leave your new husband
until you know what i-it's like to be neglected, to b-be i-ignored and d-discarded like a p-piece of t-trash!
I-I w-wish t-that y-you w-would b-be k-kind a-and d-devoted a-and l-loving to y-your h-husband u-until h-he -
tires o-of y-you! A-and I-I w-wish t-that n-no m-matter w-what, y-you m-marriage e-ends b-badly!" Janet's
voice broke into a stream of muffled sobbing as Steve, now Stephanie, felt the changes overtake her. Her mind
filled with the knowledge of how to act like a woman, how to talk like one, her entire brain being re-
programmed as if she had never been born as Steve Donaldson. But the memories of her previous life never left,
and she had no idea of her new past.
But for right now all Stephanie could do was slump over, her body going numb as she felt all that she once was
fade into nothing. It had never happened. Steve Donaldson was dead, and in his place was only Stephanie Helms,
the newlywed bride of her former life's greatest sport's hero.
"G-goodbye..." She heard Janet say on the other end of the line, and loud *click* and then the haunting dial
tone that seemed to stretch out for eternity, before Stephanie grasped the phone once more and slid it slowly
back onto the receiver.
Silence.
The newlywed woman turned her almost dead gaze towards the massive diamond ring on her slender finger, and
pondered the future to come.
