April wanted to pick up a few books from the local branch of the lybrary. It was so piddling small that she had to order everything from the larger branch a few miles away. She had four science fiction novels she had asked for, all of them a highly suggested series she wanted to try.
She was halfway there when she began to feel a little dizzy. Not too bad, but it was defenately disorenting. She felt like she had stood up too fast, or been out in the sun too long. She ignored it and kept walking. It would only take a few minutes to get to the lybrary, after all.

Her books were in. She checked them out, but she still felt a little dizzy. After a few gulps of water...she'd finished off Darren Case's soda a long time ago...she sat down in one of the chairs.
Well...ok. The real reason was that she wanted to read the books. Having them in her hands was like a junkie with a full day's worth of fix in his posession. They were burning a hole in her bookbag. She could have walked home, but she couldn't resist the lure of just a few pages...
And then there was the lure of just a few more...
It was two hours before she even realized that the dizzyness hadn't gone away. If anything, it had graduated to chills. Her teeth were almost chattering. She felt feaverish. And thirsty. And hungry.
She walked over to the water fountain next to the bathroom doors and began gulping down water. She had to get home now before she felt worse, maybe even too bad to make it back to her house. She looked directly into the eyes of her blurred reflection in the stainless steel of the fountain
She stopped thinking completely.
There was a blurr of golden color where her eyes should have been.
