Philip Gonçalvez was an exchange student coming from south America to the renowned MIT Institute as part of an scientific/cultural exchange program, he has been assigned a room in an apartment building in close proximity to the institution, the classes ranged from early morning to early afternoon.
In the apartment, he lived with two other boys from the exchange program, Matt and Isaiah, Matt came from Argentina, where he studied Journalism, he choose MIT rather than Florida specialized college because of someone he wanted to meet on the neighborhood, although he never said who, you both spent most of the time together, playing online Strategy games or a casual match of blitz chess. Philip had other things to worry about with his family on the other side of the continent, in Brazil, he did kept contact through the Internet, but that wasn't enough for his Mother as she was very protective, didn't wanted him to go so far for study, he considered this, an opportunity to flee from problems and at the same time work on his scientific dreams. Isaiah, was a very quiet and reserved guy, all Philip knew about him he said in the first day at the dorm, he spent most of the time working on the University itself, where, Philip didn't know.
It has passed two months since Phil arrived,in a nice, sunny Tuesday, about 02:14PM, he was on his gamer-Notebook writing a complex algorithm for an automated supply system for his mining drones in minecraft, when the door bell was heard, he was alone at the time, so he went for the door to meet a delivery girl, she was carrying a box with the logo of the TransDem Corp, she said:"Sir, i have a package for..."she looked at the send order"Philip Goncalv... Gonsalvei..."He completed "Gonçalvez" she looked at him"yes, that, please sign here" she handed him the order, he signed, she handled him the package, and he watched as she went downstairs, then closed the door.In the package was a CD-ROM case(who uses CDs nowadays) a USB cord, for what it looked like a cross of a phaser pistol from star trek and a hand-held radar,"This looks cool"He said looking at the strange gun-like device.
He went to his room and turned on his desktop, he grabbed the CD case, it read "Chronivac 4.0 by TransDem Corp" centered in bold on the front of the case,"Chronivac? never heard of that before, perhaps a new game?", he grabbed the CD, which had the same writings in it, but with a silver lines drawing TransDem Corp at the bottom, autoplay started, he scanned for viruses, a minute later antivirus said it was fine, so he proceeded to install, very generic options during install, it took about 9 minutes to fully install, during that time he googled for TransDem Corp, then got redirected to the company official website which had at the top in bold font "Chronivac 4.0 starts testing!" "Testing? this means i got selected?" he went for the manual which explained that and instructions of use, apparently this computer program could change animate living beings form and mind, at the end of the very short manual it said for me to continue reading the help in the install CD, "Change forms? that's unreal, it's just a computer program it can't interfere with the physical world" he then scanned more thoroughly TransDem Corp website to find reports that their breakthroughs in organic matter and reality folding/manipulation, in one of the interviews TransDem CEO explained:
"In our newest product we came with an alternative to nanomachines or mutative viruses, we started to use... well, let me explain the theory, basically, every animate being in our universe as we know it, has an invisible, very discreet, 'field' that surrounds then and gives their matter 'life', we call this 'life field' it's not different from what other religions in the world depict as 'soul but we were the first company in the world to prove this, our product uses an emulated emitter/receiver inside the computer of our costumers, this emulated emitter is capable of manipulating the field to induce physical and/or mental changes to living beings in the vicinity around the computer the program is running in, this way we could overcome the technical difficulties in mass manufacturing nanomachines or bio-engineered viruses to do the job, but rather we now rely on our costumers computer themselves, which as any costumer of this new technology, that Chronivac is able to induce a 'virtual infinite memory and clock' by folding space and time through more intrinsic quantum effects."
Philip was quite impressed by that speech, he was always a wannabe physicist (another reason he choose MIT) and that was awesome.
As soon as this video ended Chronivac finished installing and presented him with a screen, similar to Photoshop, but to the left of the screen was a 3D visualization of himself, with the clothes he was wearing right now, somehow chronivac already knew who he was, "What the fuck? the program already scanned me" remembering the speech, he realized that Chronivac was able to scan living beings around his computer, on the list were, the under and above neighbors and everybody who lived in the same floor.
Amazed by this, he started to check the dozens of tabs to the right of his 3D preview, the options were:
- Species;
- Features and Abilities(physical);
- Limbs and other body parts;
- Mind;
- Knowledge;
- Surroundings;
- Reality;
- Time;
- Adv. Options.
At the top bar of the program was a help icon, a save icon and a load icon, clicking help, he opened a common help window, it read"Welcome to Chronivac 4.0 your personal(or not) 'transformation of all kinds' suite." to the left were many options detailing the use of every command.In resume:
Species means changes to the members of your whole or a small number of beings species or creation/editing of subspecies;
Features and Abilities, you are to add superpower-like features or special proficiencies or deficiencies the being you're editing has;
Limbs and other body parts involve finer tuning of species alteration, adds or removes whole limbs;
Mind involved all related to intelligence, personalities, addiction and all thinkable mental properties;
Knowledge means to add or remove knowledge at various subjects they all had levels of depth(in a scale that varied from 0% to 150%)this included instincts as well;
Surroundings governs the way the desired transformation affects the environment, there you could select if it will be noted by the person itself as a transformation, will it happen under certain conditions or time or it will be none, meaning instant awareness of the transformation;
Reality allows to edit more ample, species changes, it allows to set society and cultural values of the new or old species;
Time allows for further customization of transformation time(how long does it take to become xxxxx) and how long beings stay in that state if the conditions in Surroundings are meet.
Ample possibilities flooded Philip mind, he could make himself the next Niels Bohr and at the same be a chick-magnet, or he could alter reality to give mankind different traits like night-vision or wings, magic, or he could just use it to make any girl he ever desire to be a sex slave or a maid, or... or... so many possibilities! what does he do?
