Some of the people in the crowd were urging the two heads to continue pummeling each other. Others were simply staring and gawking at the unusual sight. But most of the crowd had their cameras out taking pictures and video taping the whole scene. The two Edwards noticed none of it though. All they could think about was trying to wrestle, punch, and kick their other half into submission.
Finally, the left Edward head-butted his twin. He hit hard enough to make both of them see stars, which abruptly ended their fight. Both Edwards groaned and rubbed their heads with their respective hands. After a few moments, the right Edward's vision began to clear. For the first time, he took in the large crowd of people gawking at them. Turning to his twin, he spoke so only the left Edward could hear, "Dude, we can finish this later. Let's just get away from these people."
The left Edward surveyed the crowd around them, and nodded his head in agreement. "I don't want to go to the beach now anyways."
The Edwards rolled over onto their stomach, lifting their chest from the ground with their hands. The right Edward brought his leg underneath them, and together they stood up. The Edwards ran forward through the crowd, knocking people away as they made a hole to escape. Some of the crowd followed. With the shared mindset of trying to get away from all the crazy people, the twins took off back in the direction of their house. Their movements were mostly synchronized now that they were in agreement.
A short distance from their house, the right Edward said to the left, "Hold up a sec."
They came to a stop and looked behind them. The group of people following them were only a short distance away. "We can't stop here! We're almost home!" The left Edward began to move forward again, but the right held his ground.
"No, we should find a different place to hide. Let's go this way." He pointed to an alleyway just up ahead and to the left. "We can disappear somewhere in Halezley's Park, and slip back home when the coast is clear." The left Edward was about to argue back, but the right interrupted. "Are we really going to argue about this too!"
The left Edward sighed, "Fine, we'll go your way." With that, the Edwards took off again. They sprinted down the alleyway. The far end was fenced off. "Keep going, we can climb over it." The left Edward called out. A few feet away, the left Edward called out again to jump. They latched on to the fence, and awkwardly climbed over. They were much less practiced at climbing together.
Once on the other side, they took off at a sprint. The few people on the other side of the alleyway, took double takes as the two-headed twins raced past them, but no one gave chase. The Edwards ran across the park to a deserted section where it was easy to find a hiding spot. They hid in the shade of a giant oak with tall and thick bushes surrounding them. Leaning their back against the trunk of the oak, they rested their worn out body.
Already, bruises were starting to form on their body from the brief fight they had. Some of the cut they acquired were bleeding slightly. The left Edward had a small bruise on his cheek and a fat lip. The right Edward had black and blue starting to form around his right eye. The twin Edwards looked at the body they shared, and then at each other. "Your a mess!" The left Edward cracked a smile at his twin, though it hurt to move his lip.
"You're one to talk." The right Edward responded. He took another glance at their body. "Man, that was pretty stupid of us. We did a number on ourselves."
"Yes we did! Hey, but don't you remember the twins from next door. They fought all the time."
"Yeah, but they never threw punches like we did. Plus, they could walk away from each other."
"Walking away would be difficult, Bro."
"You just called me Bro."
"Yeah, so?"
The right Edward paused for a moment as he thought about it. "Well, we kind of are like brothers. We certainty act like them even though we're supposed to be the same person." Rubbing the back of his neck, he responded, "Maybe we should have different names."
The left Edward nodded. "That sounds like a good idea." He rubbed the back of his neck as he tried to come up with a nickname for himself. "How about... Ned. I like that name, and its technically a nickname for Edward."
"It suits you." The right Edward smiled at his twin, Ned. "How about I go by Ted then."
"Alrighty then, you're Ted, and I'm Ned." Ned smiled as he held out his hand in front of them.Ted tried to shake Ned's hand, but it was awkward. Instead, they fist bumped. "Maybe when we sneak back... we could use the chronivac to make us into normal twins. Then we can actually go to the beach without drawing a crowd."
Ted agreed "Sounds like a plan."
