The Sparkle Revealed

added 9 years ago O

It was a sparkle, much like the one you saw in the cave, only this time it was much clearer. Too far away to truly make it out, but you could discern a slender shape sparkling in somewhat dense glitter with a less dense, but vigorous swirl around the upper half.

Walking towards it, to get a better look, it darts behind a tree. You run behind it only to catch a streak of sparkle out of the corner of your eye. It flew behind your head so fast; you could barely track it as you spun your head around. Clearly, this thing was alive.

Your close proximity with it at least allowed you to determine it flew using wings like an insect, but no insect you’ve ever heard of made wing beats that sounded more like a gentle ringing. Plus, you could swear it was humanoid. A thought enters your mind of its identity, and given that this place had two moons, and considering it’s shape; it was a distinct possibility.

It continues darting from tree to tree. Every time you get close, it flies behind your head and escapes to the next one. You still barely keep track of it. Finally, as it flits behind another tree, you approach it the same way you always do; except this time, you whip your head back and face the other direction. When you do, you see a glittering face smack right into you.

The impact dazed you, your quarry, even more so. As your senses come back, you look ahead, then down at the dazed figure at your feet. It was a tiny, but beautiful girl; nine inches tall, you estimate; with short, golden hair; sparkling skin; broad, prismatic wings and a simple bikini of flower petals, just as you suspected, a fairy.

You grab the small, young woman just as she regains her composure. You’re firm enough to restrain her, but gentle, so as not to hurt her. She looks at you with large eyes. “Please, let me go.” She pleads.

“I just want to ask a few questions first, then I’ll let you go.” You respond

“Please, be quick.” The fairy said.

“I saw a sparkle back in that cave,” you say, pointing in the direction of the cavern, “that was you, wasn’t it?”

“Yes, it was I. I saw you injured, and I healed you. The damage was severe, you surely would have died from your head wound alone.”

“Where am I?”

“Gaia, the magical counterpart of your world. Most of the myths and legends of your world come from beings originating here. This region is known as the Fairylands.”

"How do I leave?"

"Not easily, travel between worlds is strictly regulated. The fact you found your way here must have been a tremendous fluke. If you let me go, I promise to take you to someone who might be able to help."

“Just a couple more questions. What’s your name?”

“I dare not say. Mortals who learn a fairy’s name can make them their slaves.”

“I understand.”

”Please, I cannot be seen in your grasp I took a big enough risk just helping you in the first place.”

”Then why keep hanging around me?”

The fairy shyly turned away, and blushing, she says...
