Katie was worried. How were they going to get back home? The car was gone, and her mother's former licence was now a blank piece of plastic. They had no money with them, no identification, and they were alone. For the first time, the preteen began to comprehend how dangerous this was. Before, when she was little, her mother protected and watched over her. Now there was just the two of them. Kelly didn't seem the least bit worried, in fact, she went boldly towards the darkening parking lot.
"Here we are!" She exclaimed.
Katie stared. There were two ten speed bikes here, one teal and white the other purple and white, and both with helmets. Kelly unlocked hers. "Come on sis!"
Katie nodded, fumbling with the lock. Somehow she knew the combination, their birthday. Wait, their birthday? Yes they were the same age now so it made sense. The fact that the magic gave her these insights as they came up was strange but not unwelcome. Katie hadn't ever ridden a bike properly before...but now she straddled it and worked the pedals like a pro. Pushing off, she followed her sister. As the wind whipped past her, katies worry started to vanish. This was...actually kind of fun, biking with her own mother. It really felt like they were more than just sisters, but friends. But home was a far ways off and...
Kelly suddenly stopped short at a small bungalow on the beach. It was much smaller than their old house, but painted white with a picket fence and a nice green lawn. The front door was cherry red, along with the mailbox and lights glows warmly in the window. Discarding the bike, she approached the garage door. "Home sweet home," Kelly exclaimed, opening it. Katie stared. Inside the garage there were other toys and things kids would have, things she'd never had. Most of them were things for the beach, but there was hiking, biking, soccer, basketball...all sorts of sports stuff here. The space for their boards was separate, including the kind of workstation a professional would have.
"Stop gawking Katie, I'm starved. Let's go inside and order a pizza."
Katie just nodded absentmindedly and followed her sister inside. So their old house was gone, did that mean... sure enough. All their old stuff was gone too. They entered into a simple little kitchen with a plain wooden table, a fridge, microwave and stove. There were cupboards, and decorations like kids would put if they would own a house. There were stepstools too to reach things. Beyond this the kitchen opened up to a small living room with a couple of bean bag chairs, a tv and a gaming system. The room looked well lived in by two girls their age, and, like the main room, had flourishes like kids had decorated. There was a definite surfer theme here. Beyond this there were two bedrooms, one with the word Katie in pastelle blue, and the other Kelly in pink. There was no other room, other than a shared bathroom and no sign of adults. In fact...as katie wandered in wide eyed, she noticed something with the pictures on the wall.
All were of her and kelly as they were now. Showing them in soccer, surfing, basketball, at school, with friends, girls their age she didn't know yet because the magic hadn't recognized their physical presence. Yet as everything else was there, she recognized it as it should be and had been. She'd wished for all of this...every bit of it, and it had come true.
