"Hyahaha!! It's complete! Finally!" The mad scientist shouted, catching the attention of those working for him.
"T-that's great, sir...! Truly, truly amazing!" Said the scientist's loyal assistant, Kellen. "...Just, please, keep your voice down..."
"Keep my voice down?! HA!! This is a time to celebrate! We've worked for years to finish this!" The mad scientist said with joy.
The other scientists in the room congratulated each other. They had finally completed it. It was no longer just "virtual reality", it was now real.
They had made an alternate reality, where the rules were under their control. Some may ask why they did so in the first place. Well, to study how different people reacted to different situations, but without being caught, they made this world. For example, they could turn a person into a car if they wanted. Slowly, of in an instant and everything inbetween.
Though there were limits to what they could do to someone. For one, though they're able to change things like what somebody likes or dislikes, sexual orientation and thing, they are NOT able to change somebody's core personality: A tough guy will remain a tough guy on the inside, even if he's become a frail little girl on the outside.
Second, memories were off-limits. Though some scientists opposed to this rule, it was decided that they wouldn't mess with things like that.
If they turned somebody into an inanimate object, the person may lose some senses; for example... Let's use the car again. As a car, the person will lose senses which wouldn't make sense for a car to have, such as the sense of smell. The only feeling which always stayed was the sense of touch.
As for the world itself, it was huge, holding many different landscapes, though the placements of these weren't the most...logical. A tundra could be next to a desert, and a jungle beside those two. Even towns and cities were around, though they lacked people.
"Now... We only need test subjects", The mad scientist mumbled to himself. "Kellen! I want you to find some nice test subjects! Now!" He shouted, even if Kellen was right next to him. It was a bad habit of his...
"R-right away!" Kellen said back in a much lower voice before leaving the room, taking the special remote needed to send somebody to their new world.
-----------------------------------------------------
It was an ordinary day for the 10B classroom, just another boring school day. Their teacher, Mr. Harold kept going on and on about some math stuff, even though most of the students weren't paying much attention to what he said. Some were sitting with the phones when Harold wasn't looking, others were whispering to each other. To sum it up; Most didn't car about what the teacher said.
It was about halfway through the lesson, when another teacher dropped in: She said that the class would have a special visit from a real scientist! This got most of the kids' attention.
Later that day, the scientist walked in. He introduced himself as Kellen, and waved a remote around as he spoke about random stuff. But, at the end of the class, a grin appeared on the scientist's face as he pointed the remote towards the class; teacher included.
"And now, dear children... You will experience science first-handed!" He shouted as he pressed a button on the remote. Every one of the kids blacked out within seconds. Meanwhile, they were being transferred to the newly-created world, ending up in a grassy field. The project's leader, the mad scientist, prepared his speech that he'd tell the people when they woke up. In this speech, he would explain what was going to happen to them.
