"My God, you fool, what have you done?" said Artier, with shock. "I have no idea what crazy experiments my cousin was working on. We could have been killed! Luckily, it doesn't seem like it was any kind of poison."
Jenny was on the verge of tears. "I'm so sorry, sir. It's my first day, I'm still learning. Please don't fire me, I really need this job."
Artie felt some sympathy for the poor girl. He really didn't want to be here either. But his cousin was missing, and the family insisted he check in on him. He arrived to find the servants missing, and the estate a complete mess. He was searching for some clues to Randall's disappearance when the servant girl showed up. To avoid more embarrassment, the official line from the family was that he was in the city on business.
"It's alright. Just clean up the glass, and begin work on the other rooms." he said. "But for God's sake, be careful. My cousin is a genius, but he has no common sense. He may have left other dangerous experiments lying around, and I don't want you to get hurt."
Jenny was touched by his compassion. "Thank you, sir, I will be careful. And you won't regret your decision. I'll clean this house till its spotless." She quickly cleaned the glass, and left the room.
Nice girl, Artie thought. He began to read through the papers he had gathered. He was shocked by what he discovered. It was a little confusing, but from what he understood Randall had discovered what constituted the essence of different species of animals. The gas allowed him to swap characteristics of different species, essentially trading a part of their essence. The reason the gas did not affect him was that it required contact between the two animals to activate. Thankfully Randall had developed a kind of antidote, a second compound that would stabilize the changes. He quickly found the compound, and drank from the vial. His cousin was a little crazy, but he also honest. He trusted that his research was successful, and he had no desire to become an animal! He had a sneaking suspicion about what had happened to the servants, and possibly his cousin.
Yes, the Servants .......his thoughts were interrupted by a sudden revelation. The Servant Girl! She was in grave danger. He had to find Jenny and stop her before she touched an animal, and became some sort of monster. He grabbed more of the stabilizing compound, and began looking for Jenny.
