"Yes, of course." Miley said, and she began to sing a song similar to the one that changed Julie into a mermaid; causing Julie's tail to revert back to a costume. As She left the water and removed her tail, Miley said. "I'll be here tomorrow at midday, if you'd like to hang out again."
Julie smiled. "I can almost guarantee I'll be back."
Over dinner Julie's family asked where she was all afternoon. She told them how she was swimming with her tail and about Miley, leaving out the part where she was a real mermaid and made her one, too. Derrick kept quiet about the encounter at the window, at least until later that night when he followed Julie to her room.
"So why didn't you mention Miley was a real mermaid?"
"What do you mean? You know that was just a costume."
"Nuh-uh, I saw how those tails moved, no way they were costumes!"
"You were just seeing things; probably your eyes playing tricks on you after playing that 3DS of yours. Mom and Dad warned you about playing it in 3D mode all the time."
"I know what I saw." Derrick said as he left Julie's room.
"As if our parents will even believe him if he told them." Julie said to herself as she put on her nightgown and entered her bed. She drifted off to sleep thinking only of Miley.
The next day, after lunch, Julie tells her parent's she's going out to meet her new friend again. As she's rummaging through her bags, she considers showing Miley her copper colored mermaid tail. She always packed a backup in case something happened to her regular one, but it didn't seem to be there this time. She could swear she packed it, but eventually she determined she was mistaken and took her regular violet tail. As she made her way to the shore, she saw Miley waving to her. With her, was another mermaid; Julie guessed she was about the same age as Derrick.
