Evelyn and Adam returned to work, as veterinary technicians at the large old city zoo.
"I hate the night shift," said Evelyn glumly. Maintenance was done after hours, and Evelyn had drawn the unfortunate night shift.
"At least we won't have to deal with the tourists, " said Adam. "And we have the whole day tomorrow to rest."
Evelyn pulled into the dark employee parking lot. A few cars belonging to other workers finishing their shifts were scattered in the parking lot. Evelyn felt uncomfortable working at night. There was a night guard, but after midnight the security system was automated and they would be alone with the animals. She was glad her boyfriend, Adam, at least shared her shift tonight.
Evelyn dumped her supplies in the employee stockroom and checked the maintenance schedule to see which animal was due for care.
