Andy peeked through the doors into the arcade proper. There were a few kids nearby playing games. Who could help him? Who would listen? Right nearby was the toy counter. The twenty-something blonde manning it looked bored out of her mind, absorbed in her phone. Few games even dispensed prize tickets here.
Cautiously, Andrew sneaked out the doors and over to the most sheltered end of the counter, where hopefully nobody would see his bizarre new anatomy. "Psst. Hey." he whispered, trying to get the girl's attention.
"What's up kid? got some tickets-- oh. Uh, kid I know you've got some unusual needs, but you should probably keep that thing covered up. I mean, weren't you wearing a skirt when you came in?"
"Uh, I don't know. Listen, I really need your help. I went into the back room and--"
"Waitwaitwait," the girl cut him off, "the back room? You didn't play the freaky-deaky magician one, did you?"
"Umm... maybe?"
"Crapcrapcrap. Uh..." she searched around for a back in ___ minutes sign and [plopped it on the counter before shoving Andy back to the backroom doors. "Hurry, hurry," she muttered.
Once they were in the dark room again, with the magic machine front and center, she turned to him, her face illuminated only by the glow of the games. "A'ight, kid. This one's possessed or something." She pointed at the cause of all this trouble. "It's winnable, sure, but it's a bastard if you lose. I'm guessing you were normal before you played?"
"Of course I was! I walked right past you to get in here."
"Like I said, I remember an armless boy in a skirt coming in before. The machine changes people's memories too. Makes the changes seem normal to everybody."
"I just want to make it go away. If I can win another wish, I can wish it all away..."
"That's real unlikely, kid. You might have noticed it gets harder every time." Indeed, even now the machine was more complicated, with an automatically swaying coin chute and smaller goal slits.
"Could you help me? I can't play anymore with no arms."
"Listen, I don't want to get changed again." she said, folding her arms.
"Again?"
"Yeah," she said, "years ago I played that machine and wound up as a pregnant girl. (Yes, I used to be a guy.) I even got this job so I could figure out how to change back. I gave up after my daughter was born. But the last thing I need is to go home with tentacle arms or something."
"But... I just... I really need to change back..." He was weeping again.
She tentatively hugged him, and it made him feel a bit better. She sighed over his shoulder. "Okay, kid, We'll figure this out."
