The next morning you wake up and begin your morning routine, you shower and change into a clean pair of clothes, your mum was already in the kitchen preparing breakfast, Grace and Lucy were sitting at the table on their phones catching up on social media.
Zoe was still sleeping, she wasn’t one for the social interactions in the mornings, so you just often let her get up of her own accord, your mum began placing warm bowls of porridge in front of you and your sisters.
Breakfast conversations were kept relatively short, however after all the small talk your mother brings up the day’s plans with the neighbors.
“So, any ideas on what we could do today?” your mum asks before eating a spoonful of porridge.
“We could go bowling, Sunday has a cheaper price” Grace suggests.
“Actually, they stopped that last month never really got a reason behind why probably got too packed to handle so many customers and having to turn away customers” your mum replies.
You think for a few minutes as more ideas were thrown around such as a trip to the mall, the arcade, swimming pool all of them turned down before something came to mind.
“What about the park? You know the one the large park with the kids playground and huge field, we could set up a nice little picnic and relax in the sun” you suggest.
Your mother rubs her chin a little in thought before smiling “great idea” she says “I’ve been dying to use the picnic basket again, haven’t used it since your aunt Amanda was in town” she adds on.
Breakfast continues with talks on food, something you made sure contained plenty of healthy foods like carrots, lettuce and other vegetables, you get up off your chair having finished your food.
“I’ll head over and let them know of the picnic” you say.
You leave the house and make your way over to the front door of Eric and Luke’s house it was only 9:30 so you weren’t sure if they were up or not but you knocked on the front door, you wanted to give them a little time to prepare.
A few minutes go by then the front door opens and Eric is standing in front of you wearing a thong and nothing else, he was yawning clearly having just woken up.
“Oh, hey Jay, little early isn’t it?” he says.
“Sorry, just wanted to let you know that we’re having a picnic at the park later, just something to get you and Luke out with us so we can get to know you a little better” you reply.
Eric chuckles a little “I haven’t been on a picnic in years, last time I went on one was before I met Luke, sure we’ll be over later, Luke can make his carrot cake for the picnic”.
You nod “alright see you around twelve” you say before turning around and leaving, you hear the front door close before making your way back home.
The rest of the morning was spent getting food and drinks ready for the picnic, Zoe finally climbs out of bed and eats breakfast, she isn’t into the picnic stuff and tries to weasel out of it with fake plans with her friends.
When lunch time arrives, everyone including Zoe who had been bribed with cash to spend the day with the family is ready, soon the door knocks and you go to answer it, you greet Eric and Luke who has a plastic box with a carrot cake in.
You bring them both into the house and everyone’s jaws hit the floor mostly in shock, a moment of awkward silence passes through the room before your mum speaks up.
“Well this is certainly a strange sight to behold, didn’t expect to see some rabbits all human like” she says trying not to be rude.
“They look kind of cute” Lucy says, you knew she loved rabbits and her reaction wasn’t surprising at all.
“Yeah, hi, I’m Eric and this is Luke I hope we’re not making things uncomfortable for you, we get a lot of hate for being what we are” Eric says.
You quickly speak up “this is my mum Whitney, my sisters Grace, Lucy and Zoe”.
Your mum finally speaks up “it’s fine Eric just shocked a little that’s all, but yes I’m Whitney and my daughters Grace, Lucy and Zoe” she repeats after you say it.
The trip to the park went smoothly, it was empty with only the odd parent littered around the playground area, you and the others find a shaded spot far enough away from the playground you could relax without fear of being stared at.
You help set things up and everyone begins to chat to each other, you had already gone through a few basic things like Grace and Lucy working out on weekends, mum’s yoga and book club, so Eric began to talk about him and Luke.
“We’re in an open relationship so sexual partners aren’t an issue, we actually got sexual with a couple of human guys before we moved here” Eric says as he snacks on some lettuce.
“Our sexuality isn’t fully gay either despite our feminine appearances, we enjoy the company of all genders but we do like getting dirty with men more” Eric says before letting out a small giggle.
Everyone just laughs trying not to make things awkward as they eat some food.
“We actually work from home, Luke writes novels in his spare time which he sells online and I sell products online, ranging from shampoos to soaps, health drinks and other items that aren’t consumable like clothing” Eric continues on.
“What kind of novels do you write Luke?” Lucy asks.
“Oh, I specialize in fetish stuff” Luke replies blushing a little.
Lucy can’t help but blush herself “I’d like to read one if that is OK?” she asks.
Luke nods his head “so who wants some carrot cake?” he asks changing the subject.
You weren’t a fan of carrot cake it always made you feel ill after eating it but your mum and sisters were eager to get a slice, Luke begins to cut the cake and hand out pieces to your mum and sisters before offering you a piece.
You politely decline giving them a small explanation to how it makes you ill, Eric takes the offered slice and everyone begins to eat it, you just snack on a carrot instead, the afternoon goes by with great success and you soon begin to clear up.
On the way back home, your mum asks a question to Luke.
“Hey Luke would you mind making a carrot cake for my next book club meeting?” she asks.
“Sure, I can do that” he says smiling.
“Oh, Jay mentioned you did Yoga on a Tuesday, did you want to take some samples of a health drink? Carrot is pretty popular among those we sell it too” Eric proposes unable to resist a possible sale.
“Sure, if it has good health benefits why not” she says.
The rest of the journey was filled with small talk and laughter from a few jokes or funny story, you eventually arrive home, you all hug each other goodbye.
“Nice meeting you Eric and Luke” your mum says.
“Likewise, Whitney” Eric says with a nod from Luke.
You and your family head inside and sit down to relax for a little bit before your mum starts unpacking the picnic stuff and salvaging any left over veg, as you all watch TV, the sun slowly setting over the houses.
After a few hours you all eat dinner, then afterwards you all begin heading to bead one by one, with your mum being the last person awake as she watches TV still before falling asleep on the couch after midnight.
You wake up the next morning.....
