You stand up and go to the edge of the ledge. In the distance, you can see the last rays of sun reflecting off the plane and idly wonder if the other passengers have found anything useful aboard. Not that anything would last more than a few days. Shaking off your failed attempt at optimism, you see Jude collecting some water from the spot where the spring emptied into the lake.
"That looks great, I'm parched," you say hopefully.
"Better boil it first," Jude replies with a grin, to which you nod in reply. It's common sense, at least what used to pass for common sense before you ended up in this place. Adjusting a few rocks, Jude sets his makeshift kettle over the fire and shoves a few more branches into it. You're not sure what kind of trees the branches came from; nothing around you looks familiar. Some of the trees look like strange mashups of cacti and oaks, and others have strange frond-like leaves on pine-shaped trunks. The colors also stray far from those you would consider normal. Nevertheless, since it burns, you decide not to over-analyze the wood you and Jude collected for the moment.
"Where's Skye?" you look around, suddenly aware there are only the two of you in sight.
"She's probably seeing if there are any trails through the brush before we lose the light," Jude replied, unconcerned, as he stared into the fire. He seemed oddly uninterested in the weird surroundings, just sitting there as the smoke from the fire wafted over him. In fact, you were losing interest as well, as you nearly cracked your jaw with a yawn. Although you wanted a drink and your stomach is gurgling in hopes of food, you're just too drowsy to care, and something smells comforting. Your head drops forward once, then again, then you haven't the energy to lift it.
