Noah wakes up and he had been dreaming about soccer and was surprised to find himself in his fluffy hell. He tries to sit up and then realises there is a little girl sleeping on top of him. “Ahh! Excuse me! Who are you?”
“Oh you’re awake teddy, your Dad said you had to watch me since my house got hurt in the storm”
Noah sighed, this must be more punishment since he swapped bodies behind his back. Is his Dad going to put him in these situations all weekend?
“Okay well I need a hand then, let’s go find him.” Noah got up and stretched out his paw for Kaylie to hold onto. Kaylie slipped her coat back on and grabbed the bear’s paw. She then saw the note on the floor. She held it up so they could both read it.
“Good Morning Kaylie, your Dad and I need to repair the house. Please be a good girl to our neighbours today.” Love Mom
“So Mom and Dad are going to fix the house and I’m going to be babysat by a real teddy bear” She was smiling obviously enjoying her current situation.
Noah just let her think what she wanted, not wanting to make things more difficult for himself. He led Kaylie to the door and realised he couldn’t twist the knob. “Can you open the door please, uhh sorry what was your name?”
“I’m Kaylie and what should I call you?”
“My name is Noah”
“Noah the Teddy Bear, got it”
Again Noah didn’t correct her since it wasn’t really worth it. Kaylie opened the door and Noah called out.
“DAD!”
“Yes Noah!” His Dad shouted back.
“Umm, a little help!”
“Sure thing!”
His Dad came walking up the stairs and when he saw the pair of them holding hands and he smiled. “Kaylie I see you have met Noah.”
Kaylie smiled. “Yup, I’ve never had a teddy bear baby sitter before!”
Noah was about to finally correct her when his Dad started. “Yes I’m sure Noah would be very excited to watch you today, you have had a very rough and cold night.” He looked at Noah who just sighed. “Kaylie, can you head to the kitchen? I just wanted to speak to Noah before getting breakfast.”
“Sure thing!” Kaylie went ahead of them and down the stairs.
“Dad this is ridiculous, can you help me get this thing off.”
“Umm Noah, the power is still off, can you really not feel the cold in that thing?” Noah had just noticed since his Dad mentioned it but he was wearing his coat and a scarf inside.
“Well… No not really, how cold is it in the house?” Noah didn’t like where this conversation was headed.
“It’s about 30 degrees inside and it’s -20 outside”
Noah’s mouth just dropped. “How did it get so cold, so fast?”
Noah’s Dad just shrugged. “I think you are going to want to keep that thing on if it’s keeping you so warm. Besides you don’t have anything else to wear at the moment”
Noah expected him to say that, but since it was so cold he couldn’t really argue with him.
“Okay, but the power is coming back on soon right?”
Again Noah’s Dad just shrugged. “It at least slowed snowing, but it will take them a while to clear the roads.”
Noah felt defeated. “Alright let’s get some breakfast”
Noah waddled down the stairs before his Dad got any ideas to treat him like a toy again. Once they got to the Kitchen he saw that Kaylie was already sitting at the table smiling at Noah.
“Hey Noah, sit next to me.” Kaylie had a chair already out for Noah. He waddled over and sat beside her.
His Dad walked over to the fridge and opened it. “Let’s see I think the only thing I have to eat for breakfast is yogurt.” Everything else would need the stove or oven.
“That’s fine by me Mister” Kaylie mentioned.
“You can call me Jason, Kaylie.”
“Okay Mister Jason.”
“Yeah that’s fine with me Dad.”
Jason grabbed two yogurts, one for each of them and some spoons. He then brought them to the table. “Okay Noah, I am going to need to check on some stuff around the house now that the snow has slowed. I am also going to need to dig out the driveway and walkway. It’s going to take most of the morning and afternoon, I need you to look after Kaylie until then. Just because you're small doesn’t mean you aren’t 13, old enough to babysit.”
“Sure Dad, I can do that” Noah realised he really is going to be Kaylie’s Teddy Bear Babysitter. Jason got up and headed outside.
Kaylie had already finished her yogurt, while Noah hadn’t even started. He looked at his encased hands and realized there was no way he was going to be able to eat that.
“Oh it looks like you need a hand!” Kaylie laughed and grabbed his yogurt, “Here open up.”
“Kaylie it’s Okay, I’m no-” Noah’s mouth filled up with yogurt, he was so embarrassed, he wasn’t sure how to react. Noah swallowed the yogurt and tried to protest. “Kaylie sto-” A second helping of yogurt filled his mouth. Noah had to think about how to stop Kaylie, he swallowed the yogurt and kept his mouth shut.
“Come on you need to finish your breakfast, I finished mine” Kaylie was starting to look annoyed, he figured it would be easier to give her the win plus he had no way of feeding himself.
Noah opened his mouth and in a matter of minutes all the yogurt had been finished.
“See all done!” Kaylie was gleaming, Noah thought that she really wanted to help someone out after being so helpless during the storm.
“Okay Kaylie, let’s play a game now that breakfast is over”
“Yes, this will be so much fun!”
“Let’s go to the basement, I should have some toys down there in a box.”
Kaylie grabbed Noah’s paw again and he led her down the stairs.
“See that box there, open it up there should be something to do that doesn’t require power.”
Kaylie opened the box and pulled out.
