Jacob’s dressed like a boy. She should be able to pull it off until she finds Seth. And she doesn’t want to use a fake name. That might make it more difficult for Seth to find her. She writes down her real name and marks her gender as “boy”. Then, she leaves the attendance box unchecked and ducks outside of the daycare. After the daycare workers and attendees return, she enters the daycare, toddling to the front desk.
“Mommy dwop me off,” she lisps to the receptionist. The receptionist smiles at her.
“What’s your name, little guy?” the receptionist asks. Jacob feels a surge of pride that she’s successfully passing as a boy.
“Jacob.”
“Jacob…” The receptionist checks the attendance sheet. “Ah! There you are!” She marks Jacob as present. “Luke?” A daycare worker comes over. “Jacob here just checked in. Mind taking him to the play area?”
“No problem.” Luke takes Jacob’s hand. “Come on, little man.” Luke leads Jacob into the main play area of the daycare. “Go play, buddy.” Jacob toddles towards a pile of building blocks. She sits down and joins some other toddlers in playing.
