After a moment, Terry decided to change “candidate” to something else. He began to type a new word. Before he could finish the word, it was autofilled by his phone. He went to change the word, only for his thumb to slip and hit the “submit” button.”
The world spun around Terry. When things steadied again, he quickly looked at his phone, wondering what he had accidentally changed “candidate” to. His eyes widened. The sentence now read “Two businessmen discuss their not ideal child in the other room.” The door opened. Terry tucked the phone into the pocket of his pants.
“Come on, Terry,” said one of the businessmen, taking Terry’s hand. “Just because you’re not good at violin doesn’t mean you get to skip your lessons.” The businessman led Terry down the hall and into a meeting room, where a young woman was waiting with a violin. “Sorry for the delay, Wren. Terry was being difficult like usual.”
“No worries!” chirped the violin teacher, Wren. “We’ll get started now!”
An hour later, the businessman came back and brought Terry into his office.
“Your other father is in a meeting,” the businessman said. “Play on your phone and stay quiet. Once he’s done, we can go home.” Terry nodded silently, taking a seat on the floor. He took out his phone and generated a few new sentences, trying to get a feel for what had happened.
Apparently, he was now the son of the two businessmen, who were in a gay relationship, and had very high expectations for him. High expectations he was not meeting. Terry generated a new sentence, hoping to find something he could change.
“Robin has higher than average expectations for his 8-year-old son.”
