Danny’s roommate, Greg, opened the car door and unbuckled Danny from his car seat. Greg removed Danny from the car, setting him on the ground.
“You’re doing a long shift, so I packed you both kinds,” Greg said, handing Danny his backpack, which was covered in trains. Danny put his backpack on and took his lunchbox, which also had a train on it, from Greg. “Go get ‘em, slugger.”
“I always do,” Danny said. He headed into the store. Once inside, he waved at Greg through the window. Greg waved back and drove away. Whenever he dropped Danny off at work, Greg insisted on watching to make sure Danny made it inside safe.
Danny walked through the store to the employee break room at the back, crinkling with every step. When the girl had turned him back to normal, she’d forgotten one crucial detail: he wasn’t supposed to be a toddler. Worse, the girl had left before she could change Danny back, making him stuck. Danny had suggested to Kristof that he get another customer to change him back and then leave the store so that he could be an adult, but Kristof refused for some reason. In fact, Kristof told Danny that if he tried to get someone to turn him back, he would undo the changes and then fire Danny.
Since Danny’s options as an unemployed toddler would be daycare or moving back in with his parents, he backed off. Sure, there had been some adjustments. People immediately began referring to him as “Danny” rather than “Dan”, for one. For another, his badge now read that he was a Junior Product Demonstrator. But Kristof had promised to handle all the paperwork and legal things, which made life much easier for Danny.
Danny pushed the door of the employee break room open. He put his lunchbox in the fridge and hung his bag on the hook with his name, placed specifically to be within his reach. He then headed over to the toddler training potty by the changing table to do his pre-shift business. Two of his co-workers, Chloe and Wanda, were sitting at the dining table chatting while they waited for the store to open.
“Morning, short stuff,” Wanda said cheerfully.
“Good morning,” Danny replied. He pulled his shorts and training pants down, then sat on the training potty. Using a regular toilet was out of the question at his size, but they’d quickly discovered that using the staff bathroom as a whole wouldn’t work for Danny. The handle was out of reach, and he couldn’t always find someone to get the door for him on time. Luckily, the accidents he’d had while discovering this were easily cleaned up, as Danny had been relegated back to training pants. He still had his adult potty training, thankfully, but the only undergarments that fit him now were training pants and diapers.
His training pants had also come in handy while he adjusted to using the potty in the staff room. At first, he couldn’t go in front of anyone, and wound up using his training pants while on the floor as a result. When he started having accidents at home, however, Danny realized his potty training was slipping and forced himself to use the potty in the break room, no matter how many people were around.
Danny emptied his bladder and bowels into the training potty, grabbed a baby wipe from the container on the floor next to him, and wiped himself down.
“Just the training pants today?” Chloe asked. Danny shook his head.
“Long shift, so I’m doing a diaper.”
“Want some help?” Wanda asked.
“Please.”
“You got it.” Wanda walked over to Danny, picked him up, and placed him on the changing table. Danny’s bladder was now the size of a thimble, so he had to pee multiple times a day. During long shifts, it was just easier to wear a diaper and go as needed. The store had been surprisingly accommodating to this, putting a changing table in the break room just for him.
Wanda quickly and efficiently diapered Danny, then set him back down on the floor. Danny put his shorts back on.
“Thanks.”
“No problem.”
Now with a visible diaper bulge and crinkling even louder with every movement, Danny left the break room. He headed for his section, the toddlers and babies, ready to start his day.
During Danny’s shift…
