As Connor and the others now made their way into the woods, Jacob and Nina invited Rick and Julia inside. "Daphne, Jim we have guests," Jacob called. As Julia entered the home, her eyes went wide as the Amazonian golem approached, carrying a talking skull.
"I can take the baby if you like," Daphne stated, extending her rather large hand towards the new mother. Julia balked, craving her neck as she gaped at the massive golem before her. "Its okay Julia," Rick chuckled. "Daphne has plenty of experience as a nanny. Tammy will be perfectly safe with her."
"Okay," Julia stammered, tentatively hanging over her daughter's carrier. Despite her husband's words, Julia was unsure. Daphne towered over the leggy doctor by at least a foot, her massive stone hand engulfing the carrier as she carried it towards the nursery. "You doing okay Julia you look pale?"
Julia glanced at her sister in law, despite having been around magic for almost a decade she was still growing accustomed to sights such as a massive golem nanny. "Sorry Nina," she blushed. "I guess Daphne just threw me off. Tammy will be okay right?"
"Daphne is gentle as a lamb," Nina chuckled. "Yeah she's built like a 7 foot linebacker but she's great with infants. Probably gentler than your new nephew's." Julia smiled, feeling a bit more at ease. "So what do we owe the pleasure," Jacob asked as he motioned for Julia and Rick to have a seat. "Not that I don't mind seeing my niece but I figured you'd still be resting Julia."
Julia fidgeted glancing towards Rick who now took a deep breath. "We got a visit today," he said. "From DHS."
"DHS," Jacob and Nina exclaimed. "Why?"
"About my dad," Julia said sadly. "And someone I haven't thought about in 3 years." Jacob and Nina nodded, pouring the new parents a drink as Julia explained.
Prior to the supernatural crossing into the mortal plane, Tom Harris had died trying to stop the creature responsible for that event. "I wasn't there," Julia stated. "But my mom was and so was Cole. Kumiko got hurt, that....thing was trying to kill Gloria and her friends. Dad stepped in, tried to save Gloria, her friends, everyone." Julia trailed off, tears leaking from her eyes at her father's final moments.
"I'm sorry Julia," Jacob said softly.
"Thanks," Julia sniffed. "But that was only the start of things. After the funeral, after Katie and her sister killed that thing...well you know what happened."
"The supernatural invaded," Nina stated, to which Julia nodded. "Yeah that," Julia said. "And then things got worse." Nina and Jacob now listened as Julia told the story of her interactions with Alec Dyson.
Shortly after the supernatural invasion, Alec Dyson had arrived in town. Dyson, for whatever reason, believed the Harris family knew what was going on. "He wasn't wrong," Julia grumbled. "But, he took it to the extreme."
"How extreme?"
"He arrested Cole and Kumiko," Julia stated. "Kidnapped them and held them on trumped up charges. He tortured my brother, would of tortured Yuki too even though she was only a newborn at the time." Nina paled at the information as Jacob snarled, angered at what he was hearing. "Where is he," he growled.
"Dead," Julia said softly. "Just before the everything went back to normal he died. Killed by Coles time traveling son. Payback for all the evil he had done to his parents and sister."
"Okay so that's that," Nina stated. "He's gone and since everyone's memories of events were altered we should be in the clear right? No one remembers the supernatural."
"Yeah reality got altered Nina," Jacob sighed. "But, here's the thing. No one remembers demons and magic but an actual person? People remember that."
"Yeah and that's what's happened," Rick said. "The agent that showed up was investigating Dyson's disappearance. After a quick hack job I got some more info. Looks like Dyson disappeared investigating Tom Harris's death and the Harris family as a whole."
"Well least you finally got to put those computer skills to work little brother," Jacob smirked. "But a missing federal agent is eventually going to bring more feds."
"So what happened," Nina asked.
"The agent that showed up just asked some questions, " Julia stated. "After that he got a phone call and left. We're not sure what to make of any of this but, he has me worried."
"We don't know if this guy is as crazy as Dyson," Rick said. "Or if he has anyone else with him. But, if he is I'm worried about Tammy. What if he tries to take Tammy the same way Dyson tried to take Yuriko?"
"I ain't letting that happen," Jacob growled, the elderly hunter now rising to his feet. The idea of his niece being threatened now filling him with rage. "Jacob wait," Nina said quickly. "We don't know what these people want? What if they're nothing like this Dyson? What if they're just going through the motions trying to close a case? Do you really want to go to war with the government?"
Jacob paused, trying to fight the government was a fools errand and he knew that. Still, he wouldn't just sit idly by. "I ain't going to fight the government Nina," Jacob said softly. "But me and Rick will jepp an eye on things."
"Thanks Jacob," Julia smiled.
"What about the boys," Rick asked. "You want to get them involved?"
"No not yet," Jacob stated. "The kids got their own stuff going on. I'll have Daphne keep an eye on them while we watch Dyson's buddies. Hopefully, whatever this blows over."
