Quickly Chenoa found herself racing through the halls. She wasn't quite sure where the teacher was exactly, glancing down at the pass several times as she tried to orient herself. After several missteps, the Deer girl now reached Ms. McKinnons room. Throwing the door open, she looked to race inside, only to run face first into an invisible force.
"Chenoa?"
Chenoa, shook her head, rubbing her forehead after taking a mild bump. Recovering quickly she glanced inside, surprised to see Ms. McKinnon was still human. "Ms. McKinnon! Miss Wong and Nat told me to find you." Chenoa now tried to push on the invisible force in front of her, surprised she couldn't enter. "Can I come in?"
Mary Elise paused, looking at the fully anthro deer girl at her classroom door. When the spell had begun to take affect, she cast a spell of her own, protecting her classroom. So far she had successfully prevented her own students from changing but, decided to place most of them under a sleep spell until she could sort everything out. Gazing at the anthro deer girl, she now worried that if she broke the barrier her students would be changed as well. "I'm sorry Chenoa," she sighed. "But until I can reverse this I can't let anyone in."
"Ms McKinnon what if I go out and help."
Mary Elise and Chenoa now watched as Travis made his way towards the front of the classroom. "I might be able to help the others reverse this."
"Okay," Mary Elise said. "But be careful. This spell is proving to be very potent. I'm afraid the longer it's in effect the more people will start to act like the animals they've become."
"What do you mean acting like animals," Chenoa asked. "I mean I'm a deer person. Do I act like a deer?"
"No but you're supernatural in nature," Mary replied. "But people may begin acting like animals they've become. Think how dangerous that could be. Predator animals like wolves or lions attacking prey animals like rabbits or even deer. You may be okay but would Connor? Or Rei? Or even Stephanie?"
Chenoa paused, thinking about her run in with Sparks rivals. The two mean girls had threatened Nat and Spark but, they had done so emphasizing their animal qualities first. If the spell remained in effect for too long, would everyone devolve into animals?
Travis now moved closer to the door, a concerned look crossing his face as he gazed at Chenoa. "Chenoa we have to fix this and I need to make sure Stephanie is okay," he said. "Will you help me?" Chenoa now found herself looking inti Travis's eyes, noting his apprehension. Agreeing to help, she watched as the teenage boy stepped through the door.
As Travis stepped through, Chenoa expected him to assume animal form in much the same way everyone else in the school had. Instead she watched as a cloak of living shadow now surrounded the teen, Travis taking a deep breath as he scanned the hallway. "How come you didn't change like the others," she asked.
"Life and Death can't be changed" Travis stated, his cloak slowly swirling around him like a living shadow. "I've always had some resistance to magic. I just didn't want to say anything because it just sounded too weird." Chenoa nodded, understanding to an extent what Travis was saying. Travis throughout his life had wanted to be as normal as possible, something that was quite impossible considering his heritage. Chenoa had felt that from the moment she had entered school, wanting to fit in with the humans that wandered the halls.
"I need to make sure Steph is okay," he said. "Then we can try to figure out how to change everything back." Chenoa nodded, agreeing with him as the now sped down the halls.
"Good luck you two," Mary Elise said softly, hoping they could figure out how to reverse the spell before something bad happened.
