Marth proceeded to bang his head against a tree. Twenty seven times. Might have been more, he wasn't counting.
Stupid stupid stupid stupid STUPID, he told herself. You were going to reason with her! You were going to help her see the mistake she was making! And you had to screw it all up! This is no one's fault but yours!
The majority of animals, when they see one of their own kind repeatedly bashing it's head into an inanimate object. The general consensus was the animal had gone crazy, and was best avoided at all costs. While the bucks who had been with Leticia could intelligently guess the real reason, as a whole, each and everyone of them didn't want to be within ten miles of Marth right now, and did their best to make that happen!
Your boyfriend is a girlie girl whose shelved you, and you're a foot in mouth disease buck! Aren't the miracles of genetic engineering wonderful?!
Marth wanted to cry, and was left confused by the idea that he should be ashamed to cry. Oh right, 'real men don't cry' who was the bastard who thought up that BS?
For less than moment, he remembered what Leticia had said about Maggie, and remembered Maggie's offer. His mental reaction was instant:
I'd rather gurgle acid. He would NOT be that wicked witch's puppet!
The worst part was, the absolute worse part, was that Marth could see himself staying a buck, an animal on two legs with hands, and Leticia a doe, and living out their lives together in this form, in these roles.
He couldn't even just tell himself that Larry no longer existed or was dead!!! He had looked at Leticia, and felt the exact same attraction he had for Larry when he was Maria!!!
While the buck were scared of being near Marth, the same wasn't true of the does.
"H-hello." Hannah said, speaking to Marth's back. "I heard what happened and, well I am official unofficial consoler for TGed anthros, and I was wondering if you'd like to talk."
"I have no interest in being someone's 'shake and bake' boyfriend." Marth's voice was totally neutral. He didn't look at her.
Hannah's mouth opened, but nothing could come out.
"That IS what you wanted from the moment you laid eyes on me isn't it?" Marth's voice was still totally calm. "That is why you've been hovering over me isn't it? Or am I being paranoid?"
What -was- Hannah supposed to say? 'Saw you lost your girlfriend five minutes ago. Here, try a new one!'?
"I still love her. To Hell with me, I still love her in this body and in that body. If neither of us had made that F--ing dealt then none of this would have happened!"
"But it has happened...and you can't change it."
"Not until she says 'I do' I can't!" Marth said in rebuke, "And until she does, I can still convince her that I'm the one she should chose to spend her life with."
"Her?" First time Marth had called Leticia that.
"If Larry is now Leticia, then I'm now Marth ... what? Did you think it was going to be 'click' Leticia rejects me, and 'click' I'm now -your- male companion?"
Hannah tried VERY hard not to think about the answer to Marth's question.
