The Morning After...

added by Xander6981 15 years ago O

"Honey! Get up! You'll be late for school!" you hear your mother calling from the other side of the door.

You slowly open your eyes, still feeling groggy. You instinctfully rub your eyes to get the sleep out, when you slowly realize you no longer have a snout, no fur.

"Aww...it was just a dream," you mutter as you throw off the sheets. Wait a minute, no it wasn't. You find yourself caked with mud and dirt. You see little scratches where you ran against the tree branches. It really happened. You look over to your window, wondering what had happened to the screen when you leapt through it the other night. You look out and see it lying on the grass below. You reach out and grab it, quickly popping it back into place. Miraculously, it was undamaged.

"Honey, get up! You're going to be late!" your hear your mother again. She's opening the door.

"No! I'm up! Don't come in!" you quickly yell out.

"All right, all right...sheesh..." she says, closing the door. You hear her go back downstairs. You wait to make sure the coast is clear, then head across the hall to the bathroom to take a shower.

After your shower, you quickly get dressed and pack up your school books. You grab the muddy sheets off your bed and make a mental note to wash them when you get home from school.

You run downstairs and throw your bookbag on the kitchen table. You are feeling incredibly hungry. You grab a bagel out of the basket on the counter. Fresh bagels, no doubt a peace offering from your mother. She knows the divorce has been rough on you.

"How was your date with Matt?" you ask, in between of bites of bagel.

"It was good. I know this has been rough on you, honey. Especially seeing me dating again so soon after the divorce. But we need to move on. I need to move on. We have to keep moving forward. Life is like a shark. It has to constantly move forward, or it dies," she replies.

"I'm going to be late," you reply, grabbing two more bagels out of the basket on your way to the front door. You could understand why your parents divorced. Seperate, they were decent people, but together they just started bringing out the worst in one another. It's just that you didn't approve of Matt. He was such a skeaze, it was like your Mom was trading down instead of up.

You look out the window and see Nick, your lifelong buddy, pull up in his car, a burgandy Nissan Altima. It was nothing flashy, but it ran great. He gave you a ride to school everyday.

"I gotta go." You pick up your bag and head for the front door.

"You know, change is an important part of life. We all go through changes. Especially for you, at this time in your life," said your Mom.

"Yeah, you have no idea," you reply going outside and heading over to Nick's car. You throw your bag in the backseat and climb into the passenger seat.

You wave goodbye to your Mom. You still love her, even if she is making some rather boneheaded choices.
