It was after school; Kendra and Millie decided to head to Millie’s house to discuss their fairyhood. The two girls entered Millie’s room and locked the door behind them.
“Well, let’s get into character.” Millie suggested. The two girls shrank, their ears lengthened, and their antennae and wings sprouted. Millie shrank her clothes to fit her fairy body. Millie then spoke in her high-pitched but regular toned fairy voice. “It’s safe to talk at a normal tone because human ears can’t make out our fairy voices; but I guess you know this already.”
Kendra, covering her body with her way too big clothes, said. “Well, I suspected as much, but I didn’t want to take chances, so I never truly tested it. Your fairy voice sounds cute, by the way.”
“Yours, too.” Millie replied.
“So…” Kendra raised the collar of her shirt, “a little help here.”
“Oh, sorry.” Millie apologized. “Well, altering your clothing. First you need to know how to fill an object with your magic.”
“Like this?” Kendra said as she held her hands out; her clothing began to glow. “I do this whenever I move stuff that’s heavy, awkward or too far away. I assume it’s the same here.”
“Exactly. It’s an essential step when you want to manipulate an object. Here, however, I want you to focus on what you want your clothing to become. In this case, fairy sized versions of your clothes. Then will them to become that.”
“Alright.” Kendra concentrated on her clothes becoming smaller and fitting onto her body.
“Don’t forget to make room for your wings to stick out.” Millie added. “I forgot that once, and let me tell you there’s no greater discomfort for a fairy than bunched up wings.”
Kendra’s clothing began to glow brighter and, as a swirl of light, wrap around her body before taking the shape of her clothing. Except, the slacks were made of her shirt’s material and vice-versa. Kendra stood dumbfounded.
“I actually did that my first time, too.” Millie giggled.
Kendra tried again and this time, the shirt and pants were their proper material. “Okay, good. I think I’ve got this down.” Kendra said. She jumped into the air and started fluttering around the room. Flying was always Kendra’s favorite part about being a fairy and she would never waste an opportunity to spread her wings.
“So, how long have you been a fairy, anyway?” Millie asked, hovering in midair, tracking her friend’s movements.
“Ever since my 18th birthday, about three months ago. What about you Millie?” Kendra saw that Millie was thinking about something; what, she had no clue. “Millie?”
“Huh?”
“When did you first become a fairy?”
“Uh, my 16th birthday.” Millie said floating down onto her bed.
“Huh, I wonder why I didn’t transform sooner? Oh, well, were both fairies now and I bet there’s a lot more stuff you can teach me.”
“Uh, yeah, sure.” Millie said staring down at the floor.
“Okay, something’s up, I can tell.” Kendra floated down to Millie’s bed and sat beside her. “What’s wrong?”
“There’s something I should tell you; something important and I don’t know how to say it.”
“Then just Band-Aid it.” That was Kendra’s expression for ‘Getting it over with really fast’, like ripping a Band-Aid off.
“Okay, then. Millie…”
