Katie smiled as she walked with josh, the two college students were hand in hand as they made their way through the park. Josh talked about his classes, about his passion for surfing and his dreams of one day becoming a big rock star. For her part, Katie listened and smiled intently. This was nice, so very different from the conversations and contacts she'd had as a little girl.
"Maybe I really am becoming a grown up." She thought to herself, unaware of what was happening with the other girls. For now she was happy, as happy as she ever felt as Josh finally asked. "So what about you? What are your dreams?"
"My dreams?" She asked.
He nodded and sat down with her in the grass looking over a playground with kids swinging and chasing one another. "Yeah, I mean, i saw you at the party but I don't know about you. What's your major?"
"Uhm... "Katie thought quickly and made something up. "Childcare and child development." It was technically true.
He nodded and smiled. "You like kids huh?"
Katie nodded, "Yeah I do. I mean, don't you?"
"Oh yeah, dont get me wrong, I love kids! Seems like a long time ago we were kids though!"
"Yeah..." Katie said, not admitting the truth. "Do you ever wish you were a kid, Josh?"
"Well, I suppose sometimes. But then I wouldn't have the independence I do now. Kids have to listen to their parents that sort of stuff."
Katie frowned. This was true. Most of the changes now had been because of that very reason. She wondered how her mother was doing now, she must be out of the movie.
