The Magic Shop

Troy had written the word "familiar"

added by bejjinks 8 years ago O

Troy thought it must be an earthquake. He looked around for shelter but that's when he noticed that the shaking was extremely local. Only the former magic shop and a few neighboring buildings were shaking. Troy saw some girls holding a jumprope three buildings away and they weren't shaking at all. Their jump rope hung limp and still as they stared at Troy and the strange shaking buildings around him.

Troy tried to walk toward the girls to get away from the shaking buildings but the girls ran away screaming. Troy followed them a bit but realized the shaking followed him. Wherever Troy went, he and everything near him shook.

Troy looked back at where the magic shop used to stand and it wasn't shaking anymore. However, instead of the magic shop, there was a different building. It was a weird building, much bigger than the former magic shop and it was heavily decorated in blue with moons and stars all over and several expensive draperies everywhere.

A voice came from the building. It was loud and sounded like the voice of a wizard but there was no one there. The voice said, "FAMILIAR"

Troy remembered that he had written the word "familiar" on that piece of paper he had place in the gold box. The voice repeated, "FAMILIAR". Troy realized that the gold box must have had genuine magic, or he was hallucinating, but he responded, "What?"

The voice said, "YOU HAVE UNLEASHED THE MAGIC OF THE ANCIENT BOX OF TARMOFF. I AM NOT ALIVE. I AM A MAGIC SPELL CAST BY THE FORMER OWNERS OF THE MAGIC SHOP. THE MAGIC SHOP THAT USED TO STAND HERE WAS WHAT YOU WOULD CALL A FRONT. THE OWNERS DID MAKE MONEY SELLING WHAT YOU WOULD CALL STAGE MAGIC BUT THE REAL BUSINESS THAT WENT ON BEHIND CLOSED DOORS WAS COLLECTING DANGEROUS MAGICAL ARTIFACTS AND KEEPING THEM SAFE. UNFORTUNATELY, THE OWNERS DIED OR WERE CAPTURED AND THE COLLECTION OF ARTIFACTS WAS NO LONGER KEPT SAFE. YOU ARE NOW CHARGED WITH KEEPING THESE ARTIFACTS SAFE. I CAN ASSIST YOU BY TAKING THE SHAPE OF ANY BUILDING YOU SO DESIRE. I CAN ALSO GIVE YOU INFORMATION. HOWEVER, I CANNOT KEEP THE ARTIFACTS SAFE BECAUSE I AM ONLY A MAGIC SPELL AND CAN ONLY FOLLOW RULES AND ORDERS."

It took a moment for Troy to realize what this meant. His greatest fantasy had come true. He was now the guardian of ancient magical artifacts and would become a wizard or sorcerer or something. Troy decided to test it out. "Alright, you can follow orders. Can you dress me up in expensive clothing?"

The voice said, "THERE ARE TWO REASONS I CANNOT DO SO. FIRST IS THAT I LACK THE POWER TO DO ANYTHING BEYOND TAKING ON THE SHAPES OF BUILDINGS AND GIVING INFORMATION. AS PART OF TAKING ON THE SHAPES OF BUILDINGS, I CAN BECOME A BUILDING THAT HAS A CLOSET FULL OF EXPENSIVE CLOTHES FOR YOU TO WEAR BUT I CANNOT DRESS YOU. THE SECOND REASON I CANNOT DRESS YOU UP IN EXPENSIVE CLOTHING IS BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT MY MASTER. YOU HAVE CHANGED YOURSELF INTO A FAMILIAR. YOU MUST GO AND FIND A MASTER. THE FIRST PERSON YOU TOUCH WILL BECOME YOUR MASTER. HE OR SHE WILL BE GIVEN THE POWER TO TRANSFORM YOU INTO ANYTHING HE OR SHE WANTS WHENEVER HE OR SHE WANTS TO. HE OR SHE WILL ONLY HAVE TO THINK OF SOMETHING HE OR SHE WANTS AND YOU WILL BECOME WHAT HE OR SHE WANTS. HE OR SHE WILL ALSO BECOME MY MASTER."
